I applied to the Summer Research Connection at CalTech for this summer. Has anyone heard of it? Is it worth going to? Apparently it's a paid internship that lasts for about 6 weeks and we work one-on-one with a mentor to do research on topics ranging from molecular biology to theoretical chemistry. Here's an info link: src.caltech.edu

Also, I was able to get an interview with a professor at UCSF to see if I could do research with him this year. Seeing as how prestigious the Medical Center is at UCSF, it sounds like an amazing opportunity if I can get in, because my career goal is to become a doctor. Apparently I'd be the only high school student among dozens of PhD students working in a lab. The only problem is, it's kind of a hassle. I live in Southern California and going up to San Francisco all summer would cost a lot of time and money and resources. I don't know if it's worth it.

If I get into CalTech's program, which one should I choose? CalTech is really close to home (about 5 miles) and it wouldn't take up all my time so I could still get a part-time job if I wanted to and also run in summer cross country. I'm already set to be captain next year for my cross country team, and missing out on it all summer wouldn't look very leader-like or make me seem dedicated. CalTech's program is definitely more convenient and reasonable, but I'm not sure if UCSF will pay off more in the long run.

Advice?
