Just chiming in to mention a great musical theater summer program: American Singer Seminars: Musical Theater Intensive, in Breckenridge, Colorado. This program is geared for "advanced singers" 18 and over -- they may accept one (or two) especially talented 16 or 17 yr. olds, although I am not sure if those spaces are filled yet. I am mentioning this program, because additional audition dates have recently come up:
Denver, Colorado - Saturday, April 22nd
Memphis, Tennessee - Sunday, April 30th
New York City - Sunday, May 7th

The Musical Theater Intensive is a course of instruction in musical theater styles and performance for advanced singers. Since 1999 the program has featured individual voice lessons and coaching sessions with actively performing teachers. The MTI program is geared to both the classically trained singer and the theatrically trained actor/singer. Beyond the daily work covering the preparation and performance of Musical Theater repertoire, participants will also work with an acting coach on song text analysis, scene study, audition and resume materials.
The MTI program is for the performer in transition: The high-school student looking forward to choosing a college-career path; the amateur performer wishing to develop his/her craft to the highest level; the college student who wants to focus on theater singing while enjoying a break from the environs of academia; the recent college graduate preparing for the professional world; the experienced teacher/educator looking to renew his/her energy through a summer intensive program in a beautiful alpine environment. Each MTI participant comes to the program with talent, intention and motivation to develop beyond their expectations. In turn, each participant receives individualized attention and support in the realization of their goals.

Gahhhh I JUST found out about CMU's pre-college program! (I'm quite new to the board)

I definitely want to apply, but do you think that since I just found out about it that it'd still be worth applying to? I'm on my Spring Break so I won't be able to get any transcripts or recommendations until next week at the quickest.

christeap,
The applications are due by May 1st, so you still have time to apply. Fill out the online application first, so you get the process started and CMU will start your file. Meanwhile, send the teachers/counselor a nice email with the link to the CMU Pre-College website asking for the recommendations ASAP - include link to the CMU Pre-College website. You can also attach a copy of your Activities resume, if you have one.

I'm going to BTP! I was accepted a while ago but held off on sending in my deposit b/c I also auditioned for MPulse...but I made the decision to go to BTP over MPulse, even thought I haven't heard from them yet. PM me if you're gonna be there!

Christeap,
My sister applied to the CMU summer program in late april of last year and she still got in, its a rolling admission so just get it in asap but dont fret!
on another note...i decided to attend northwestern's summer program! im so excited...does anyone know if this program is very competitive to get into?
thanks

Hi!
I am a Junior and on April 6 I auditioned for the CAP21 program. I think it went really well but I am pretty nervous about finding out. For those who already auditioned and found out, did they say that you were going to get in? Like did they say "see you next summer!" or something? And did they have a mini-interview with you or your D/S after the audition? Because they must have talked with me for about 10 minutes after the audition....
And how long did it take for them to tell you?
Thanks!

My D audtioned between her Junior and Senior year for the Cap21 summer program- they told her that she was accepted right at the audition- however, she went with two other friends and they were notified about two weeks later and they were both accepted too!! She never attended because we couldn't find an apartment for her- bummer!! But one of her friends accepted and he absolutely loved the experience!! Good luck to you!!

Just a question about Broadway Dance Project. Do they offer voice training? I know they are mainly dance and wondering about the quality of voice training.

I also recently talked to Oklahoma City University and was glad to hear they have a rolling admissions and still accepting. And the fact that they're doing Bye, Bye Birdie is a plus! I was told that voice classes are taught by the OCU voice faculty. Is that correct?

My D auditioned in Feb for the CAP 21 program. It took about a week IF all your materials are in place to hear back. We had to fax over one of her recommendations which was not received. She also spent about 10 minutes talking to the auditioners after her songs/monologue. Another friend of hers is also attending and he was told that day that he was in the program - it took a week and a half for the 'official' letter for him.

Final Outcome: She is attending this summer! She is thrilled and can't wait for June. She will be living in NYU housing(Palladium) for the 6 weeks.

Please feel free to PM me or her (kirstensofie)

Yep, voice is taught by the OCU faculty who are wonderful. There is also usually a masterclass (last year only the seniors sang, I took 3 pages of notes lol) with Florence Birdwell, she is kind of the big man on campus she taugh Kristin Chenoweth and Kelli O'hara.

Cap 21 Pre-college June 2006 - Is anyone staying at the Water St. location? Seems far from Union Sq......heard it's a 10 min. train ride....want to know more info please.

Not too sure how far it is but my D was originally assigned to Lafayette which looked to be a 20 minute walk and Water Street is below that. Heard it is a nice dorm but far away. You might call and see if they have a waiting list for anything closer.....

it was at ocu. I have to re-record my audition tape because it came out awful, so I'm hoping to send it next day mail tomorrow. Knowing my luck though, they'll turn me down.
