My son, a sophmore, was very interested in EE a couple of months ago, so he applied to "intro to engineering" at Stanford EPGY summer institute, a 3 week program. He was accepted, but now he wants to do a summer research project at a university instead. Is this EPGY program worth it? It is very expensive. I know this "science program" is not very prestigious like RSI or NIH, but thought the experience might be fun. Any of your kids do this program?

S did Summer Institute for Math and Physics at Stanford in 2001. It was part of EPGY. He had a great time and was exposed to math beyond what was available to him in our area during the school year. Based on his reports, I felt it was well designed for both in-class and recreational experiences. Hard to say if it's worth it for someone else. Living in CA, you probably have opportunities that weren't available to him in our geographic area.
