Hi all. Today is the first summer in many where I have had no camps to go to, so I want to change that next year. That being said, are there any camps in/around New England for science (or math maybe) that you would recommend?
anybody?
I have no idea; my kids have never done camp. My guess is that it’s too late to start looking at programs once July has begun. My niece is a CIT, and left for camp 2 weeks ago.
How about a part time job?
It isn’t New England, but Rose Hulman’s Operation Catapult is a 3 week engineering program where you get to do a project with a team and also learn about engineering majors. Not super expensive as these things go. But it is only for rising seniors.
“so I want to change that next year.”
That sounds like the OP is thinking ahead to summer 2018, when he/she is a rising senior. Lots of options, depending on exactly what the OP has in mind. Further clarification would be helpful.
Sorry for the confusion! I am a rising sophomore this year, so I am looking into programs for next summer @renaissancedad.
^ What kind of science are you interested in? And how rigorous/advanced is your math?
There are many more options for rising seniors, but there are some for juniors as well, depending on what specific interests you have.
For rising juniors, in NYC there’s Memorial Sloan Ketterings HOPPS Program, the Rockefeller SSP, and others through the Natural History Museum. For other research programs, though not located in NE, look into IOWA SSTP and the UC Davis Young Scholars Program, both of which are well regarded and offer scholarships. Good luck!
@renaissancedad I am interested in medical sciences or possibly biology. As for math, not too rigorous— Algebra II freshman year, Geometry sophomore… just typical.
You might look at some of the following:
- Project SMART at UNH: http://www.smart.unh.edu
- Boston Leadership Institute: http://bostonleadershipinstitute.com/index.html
Good luck!
Thanks!
