Summer Programs for Freshmen?

Are there any fun, interesting summer programs for a freshman in hs that won't send the bills through the roof? I can't seem to find any. :(

If you are into math, you can go to the Ross math program. I think it is free or low cost.

Thanks! It looks pretty nice- it’s in state as well, except I’m not really into math. But I have a friend that is, and maybe she would like to apply.

Bump???

Um, depends which state you live in. And depends on your interests.

If you’re into science in general, and live in California, the COSMOS program is a good deal. If you’re into art in general and are in California, CSSSA is very good. These programs cost quite a bit more for out-of-staters and for COSMOS no scholarships are offered to the out of state attendees, at least the last time I checked (last year). I think CSSSA does offer scholarships for out-of-staters, and it costs $5000.

I don’t really know about similar programs in other states.

There were a few math programs I was going to suggest, but if you’re not into math, then that’s not really useful.

If you’re into marine biology, the SEA summer programs are for people who have finished at least freshman year.

I’m interested in science, but I despise physics. I live in Ohio, if that helps.

My daughter attend the Marine Science Program at Discovery Island Sea Lab (disl.org) last year and had a blast. It was a month-long, residential program for $2000. I couldn’t find much info in advance, but she loved every minute of it. They were also required to do a research project that she has been able to use for college apps. It was really a neat experience.

Summer@Brown is a great choice; there are myriad classes to choose from, and it’s an amazing, educational, and fun experience. As for the expense, you can receive a significant reduction in price through the Dean’s Scholarship (I got one last year that made it possible for my family to afford the program). Also, the application is pretty easy. Go for it!
