Summer Programs for Incoming Freshman

Hey, I am looking for some summer programs for an incoming freshman (9th grade). I've looked at JSA@Princeton but afraid that might be too intensive and might want to take AP Government in my Junior or Senior year of high school. I am really interesting in politics/law or community activism, and that would be my preferred curriculum. I was also looking at Summer@Brown and comments on that would be helpful, I have done CTD at Northwestern University for the last two years and am looking for something a bit more this year. I was trying to look at some things at Georgetown and Harvard but couldn't find any that catered to incoming freshman.

Any recommendations or help would be appreciated, thanks!

Brown’s program is one of those “you pay, you get in” sort of deals, rendering it largely worthless for the money. Unfortunately, there aren’t many good programs for your grade/age, so I would do something in your community this year and look at programs for next summer. Also, you’re asking pretty late–in order to meet 90% of program deadlines, you need to start searching in December or January.

Also, AP Gov is not particularly difficult (it’s mostly reading), so if your school offers it earlier, by all means, take it. It’s fun.
