Summer Programs for Middle School Students

Any recommendations for GREAT Middle School Summer Programs? We are looking for programs with emphasis on Writing and/or Math/Science and boarding experience. Thanks for your help.

My daughter really loved Duke’s Action Science Camp for Girls. It’s aimed at girls completing 5-7th grade. Students can attend as day campers or stay in the dorms with other kids attending Duke’s Youth Programs. It’s a two-week, all day camp where girls explore all kinds of scientific research, meet Duke and UNC professors, and visit local corporations with female engineers and scientists. Campers spend an afternoon at the Duke Lemur Center.
Duke offers other youth programs in the summer, including a writing program and, for kids who test in, Duke TIP.

Also, many Boarding Schools offer Summer programs like Taft, Choate, Hotchkiss, etc. I made a thread like this ummm here:

People posted some really good sites and info

I just checked the Duke Youth Programs website. They also offer a BioScience and Engineering camp, which is coed and for students completing 6th-8th grades.
The Young Writers camp is also coed and for students finishing 6th-11th grades.

Try googling “Summer Institute for the Gifted”. It has many campus’ and my d loves it.

This will be her 3rd, and final, summer at Vassar College, NY. (we are from chicago)

They take kids as young as raising 4th graders I believe. This was my d’s first experience with long term being away from home, 3 weeks.

It was what made us sure that bs was surely a possible situation, she fit in and loved having some freedom with lots of eyes watching and helping her make the adjustment.

Due to the distance and work situation, I dropped off and picked up 3 weeks later, never able to visit…we both were able to handle it.

good luck :-)

yea i went to SIG twice at Vassar and both were awesome experiences

CTY. CTY all the way.
