Hello! I’m currently a freshman in high school and I’m looking at various summer programs I could attend.
Just FYI, I live in California and attend a top public high school. I’m pretty much set on doing something in the business/entrepreneurship/finance field, and I would also love to pursue law after my undergraduate years. My dream school is the University of Pennsylvania, specifically Wharton. In school, I participate in Speech & Debate, Mock Trial, DECA, and Investment Club. I also participate in molecular biology/environmental science research, so COSMOS is already in my radar and I’m planning to apply.
What summer programs should I apply to that I’m eligible for (in age)? Recommendations can range from business to debate to law, or really anything in between that will enhance my future application to universities, and most importantly, be a great experience.
Thank you all ahead of time!
This year, you are eligible to apply for the Wharton Business Summer Program. You can definitely look for other internships and other things on Peerlift.org or using the JHU Gifted and Talented site (there’s a huge list of internship opportunities within the states there).
I would suggest looking into getting some experience with management or business because that might really help demonstrate interest in business or finance and provide much needed experience. I think having experience in the actual field might make a difference in your application as it would show you are serious about studying that field of study. Especially if your dream school is Wharton, that might help your application because it shows you were already working to get a lot of important experience.
You should also really check out the applications for the colleges and see what extra things you might need to do. For instance, for the USC Iovine & Young application is lengthy and requires a lot of extra preparation so you might want to look into what requirements are there and how to cover them as much as you can.
