It gives lots of examples and tells you how to get started. I got it from my daughter’s college counselor this year. She’s applying for research positions now.

How is the UChicago program?

How is Santa Fe Institute’s Summer Complexity and Modeling Program (CAMP)?
Anyone attended in the past? It was held at Groton School in Summer 2011 and will be held at George Mason University in Summer 2012. Please provide your feedback.

Does anyone know anything about UVA’S Leadership on the Lawn? I really am eager to apply once applications are available, but I cannot find anything really on it (from prior students, on this site, etc).

Ivy Scholars at Yale University
TASP
How’s SIG at Dartmouth, Princeton, etc.?

This summer i went to yale’s program and next summer im going either to Columbia’s program or ucla, can anyone please tell me which one is the best regarding getting in college? Thank you

Anyone been to the summer program at Notre Dame?

What do you think about ucla?

Hi,
I actually read this post all the way through, so I’ll try not to post redundant questions…
Soooo

I’m going to be a rising junior this summer, and yesterday I went to this college seminar that really got me thinking about what I want to do this summer. The summer before I was a freshman, I did a lot of volunteering, and this past summer I also did some volunteering (but this time it was for something I enjoyed).

I’m mainly interested in biology. I have some side interests too, writing and animation. I’ve participated in science fairs, and I was almost a semifinalist for my school in Biology Olympiad.

I don’t know whether I should just do some science program/internship, or if I should combine everything I’m interested in (but this would probably be very expensive).

If I were doing the latter option, I would probably do the CSSSA creative writing program ([CSSSA](http://www.csssa.org/)) and do COSMOS ([COSMOS](http://www.ucop.edu/cosmos/)). Of course, I would have to get in first. If there are cheaper options than these, please tell me.

If I were just going to do science programs, then I have this list of programs I would be interested in.
SIMR @ Stanford: [2010 Summer Program - Stanford Institutes of Medicine (SIM) Summer Research Program - Stanford University School of Medicine](http://simr.stanford.edu/2012/index.html)
Internship Program at Craig Venter Institute: [JCVI: Education / Internship Program](http://www.jcvi.org/cms/education/internship-program/)
Internship @ Human Genome Foundation: [Genome.gov | Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research](Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research)
Research Scholars @ UCSD [UCSD Academic Connections Summer Pre-College Courses](http://academicconnections.ucsd.edu/researchscholars/index.cfm)
Summer Science Internship @ NIH System Message;
Internship @ City of Hope [Program Overview](http://www.cityofhope.org/education/summer-student-academy/Pages/program-overview.aspx)
YSP @ UC Davis [Young Scholars Program | Summer Research Opportunities for High School Students](<a href=“Young Scholars Program - UC Davis School of Education”>http://ysp.ucdavis.edu/)
Clark Scholars @ [TTU Clark Scholars Program](http://www.clarkscholars.ttu.edu/)
Is there an internship at NCBI?

Also (not really science) but the Oxbridge program if I get a scholarship would be so awesome (I love England) If I were going abroad, though, I would like to go to Japan or England. Would going abroad help with college stuff?

However, some of them I turn 16 in the middle of the summer so I probably can’t do. Is it possible to somehow get around this? IT’S SO NOT FAIR.
What is the level of each of these programs? Also, the selectiveness? For SIMR I know the level of difficulty in getting in because I know someone who got in. It would be awesome if I could get into these difficult camps that are not ridiculously expensive (or even free!) but I know I probably cannot. What does it take to get into RSI? (There were a few posts on getting into TASP… but not really any on RSI)

If I don’t get into any of the programs that I end up applying to, I plan to do some volunteering that I enjoy, hopefully get a job, and maybe go on vacation. Is this an OK plan?

This is like the longest post on here, sorry, but so many questions came up after reading this post.

Thanks!

2 years ago, I went to an information session at princeton. I don’t remember everything about it (I was only a freshman), but someone did ask about how much summer programs mean to them. They said they honestly don’t care: if you spend all summer at a prestigious summer program, it won’t necessarily set you apart from someone who spent their summer babysitting. As far as I remember, he said that what mattered was that you did something of substance, and learned something from it. Just some food for thought…

What about any programs for computer studies?

Any Oxbridge Academic program (paris, oxford, new York, Barcelona etc.) is good and Carnegie mellon summer academy for math and science is free with classes in calc (easy if you took it already, chemical eng. Robotics, biotechnology, digital forensics, music eng.) but basically for URM

i want to go into medicine.
are there any good summer programs in the northeast area of US?
and is there a summer program/session for high school students at UMDNJ? its website
is not clear.

Youth Policy Summit ([Youth Policy Summit](http://www.youthpolicysummit.org/)) is a week long leadership program for high school students around the country. In 2012 there are 6 programs to choose from at various college campuses. This program is academic and fun, and many of the colleges hosting programs have offered to waive admissions fees for YPS graduates!

it seems to me that all of these programs that look good on college applications are relating to math or science. Are their any good programs that relate to Economics, Business, or History?

Check out the St. Albans School of Public Service. It is competitive to get into but I got a good reaction during college interviews. It’s basically government/law/policy/politics focused. If you search these threads I wrote a longer description of it. For current juniors (rising seniors during the summer of 2012).

how are the programs… girls state and A Cross-Cultural Investigation of Modern Media
American Youth Leadership Program with Cambodia? I can’t decide between these and doing research over the summer?

Spending time in a foreign country adds value.

Anyone know if there is a huge difference between how these programs are perceived on college apps? The regular Stanford Summer program awards grades and the classes are the full summer (too much) 8 weeks long. The EPGY courses are not graded and are for personal fun. Any thoughts? Any experience with either?

Are there any programs for seniors??
