It’s difficult for me to find a suitable summer program that is free/low cost and for incoming juniors (I am 15 yrs old & a current sophomore). I’m interested in environmental science, chemistry, biology, mathematics, art, and english/literature. So far I’ve applied to SCA, but I would still like two or three more options. Any recommendations?

Try the SIMR Stanford program or COMOS (if you live in CA)

@purified Thanks for the suggestions! The SIMR Stanford program looks great…I just wish it provided housing

It does! Just costs a lot of money lol. I think around 5K if I am not mistaken.

@nat97xo:
here’s the Jcamp link: [Asian American Journalists Association ? High School](http://www.aaja.org/category/students/jcamp/)
and don’t worry, it is completely multicultural although run by the AAJA. This is definitely an excellent summer program, and is an informative and rich experience although only 6 days long. Two 250 word essays, one teacher rec (you need the actual letter when you submit the app) and current transcript. Optional work samples accepted, but unless you are very confident about the quality of your piece, better not to submit bc it’s so selective. Deadline 3/16. Here’s the app:

On the SIMR Stanford program’s Frequently Asked Qs website ([Frequently Asked Questions - Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program (SIMR) - Stanford University School of Medicine](http://simr.stanford.edu/faqs.html)) they state that they do not provide housing, but they do provide a $500 stipend, which is pretty awesome.

Yes, you are right. Sorry about that. I may have mistaken myself with another program.

Maybe you should also consider Georgetown’s Summer Program as well. It seems very cool and offers broader range of topics to explore too.

stanford program is quite good

@purified No biggie, and thank you for the Georgetown Summer Program suggestion: I will definitely check it out.

Hi there,

I’m new to this thread. I’m an international student in junior year looking for summer programs. Most programs I found are for US citizens, any programs are good for international students with low cost?

Any recommendations? To build up my portfolio/ experiment with more/ develop skills? Thanks!!

ASmallsteP: Yale Global Scholars is free and open to all students. It is very selective but last year 40% of the group was international.
Here’s the prospectus: http://globalscholars.yale.edu/sites/default/files/files/YYGS_Prospectus_2014.pdf

Yale Global Scholars: “Tuition is $5,000 USD, and includes room and board, linens, and processing fees. Need-based financial aid is available, including for international students, and requires submission of income and financial resource information.”

Has anyone taken this course “Topics in Business and Entrepreneurship” (9th - 10th grade) at Stanford EPGY summer camp (now called “Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes”) ?
I can’t tell if it’s really worthwhile. Do you know if it’s as rigorous as CTY? They seem to have less hours in classrooms. Maybe there’s homework… Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks Apricityn. The program was free for several students we know who have attended - I assumed it was along the lines of ND leadership, TASP etc. but apparently not. I would guess the cut-off for full funding is similar to Yale’s tuition guidelines i.e. under 60K, although the kids we know who attended are not low income. It’s rare to find a summer program accepting and funding international students.

CTY wasn’t particularly rigorous. I think that while we did spend a lot of time in class, the social aspect was way more emphasized.

How prestigious is COSMOS?

Sewanee bridge program in math and science. It’s free but very selective

COSMOS is competitive but the level of difficulty in acceptance depends on the cluster you decide to choose. Some are very competitive and others are not. For example engineering and biomedical sciences are the toughest and must be listed as your first choice. Marine biology, however, is much easier to get into and doesn’t have to be listed as first choice.

What cluster are you interested in?

GUYS, can you please tell me if one can apply to EPGY and SUMaC both? I just completed the preliminary application of EPGY and was about to do the same for SUMaC, but I’ll have to create one more account for that and the Stanford site says that creating duplicate accounts could complicate the application procedure. What should I do? please help…
