Summer Programs With Cheap Or No Tuition

Most kids are unwilling to attend summer programs because they are too expensive. But there are some programs that offer scholarship or low tuition, but are hard to get in.

Summer Enrichment Program at UVA and TASP are the only ones I know. Do you guys know any other programs?

(Gov's schools don't count since they only accept students with citizenship)

yeah, there have been several attempts at consolidated threads. they can just search. i, for one, posted a few weeks ago about 5 or 6 websites of the summer research programs to which i applied.

RSI at MIT! but it has like a 5% acceptance rate...

thomas aquinas great books program -- Tuition is $900 for two weeks. cheap compared to most summer programs: http://www.thomasaquinas.edu/admission/summerprogram/index.htm

Thomas More Collegiate Summer Program -- tuition is $995, again -- a cheap deal! http://www.thomasmorecollege.edu/summerprogram/index.html

both of these are humanities oriented.

thanks hsmomstef. Thomas More program looks awesome... but I've been accepted to SEP so I may have to think about applying.

Many state Governor's Schools have summer programs that are geared to the financial-conscious parents of gifted students.

Here's a (dated) list of such programs for the entire nation:

http://ncogs.org/2ndgen/programs/programs.php

Use it as a starting point, not as a definitive listing of opportunities. I see at least 4 programs that are radically different from what this list suggests.

Muhlenberg College in PA has a free week-long Brain Camp for people interested in neuroscience.

Applications are due May 1, 2007 though. I'm applying! :)

The LEAD Program in Business.

^ LEAD does cost money doesn't it?

http://www.lead-america.org/conferences/cslc/enroll.html

Yah but $750 for 3 weeks? That's like...so cheap considering the expense for every person is $4000 (but most of it is paid by your sponsor)

shrubber, the lead-america is not the same as the LEAD that was mentioned here. You can find threads that talk about LEAD in this forum.

Do you guys actually know how to apply for LEAD? Like, where you get the application. And its only for juniors right?

Did you get into Brain Camp? I’m looking at it for this summer and have seen very little discussion on how interesting or well run it is or how hard it is to get into.
