Next year will be my sophomore summer and I was wondering if anyone could provide me with any information about summer programs. I will be going to Spain this summer to improve my Spanish, so next summer I want to focus more on my interests (Genetics, Environment, typically anything relating to Biology, English, and History.) College-credit classes would be great along with competitive science programs. I have looked at HSSP and SSM and didn't know the admissions rate or if they were worth the time or money. Thanks!

their good as long as your godly enough

You want science? Look for anything that
a) is free
b) pays *you/i
c) says “internship” but isn’t run by a corporation
d) is sponsored by a government agency or laboratory

Any program that satisfies at least one of the above criteria should be competitive. Oh, and if you’re a supergenius, search “RSI at MIT” and get ready. Like, supergenius. It’s the hands-down most “prestigious” summer program for high schoolers. Of course, you’re not choosing a program based on its prestige.

Btw, start looking in November. You’ll want to finish applying before January (or right when a program’s application window begins) or all the deadlines for the good stuff will have passed. And make sure you know some teachers that’ll write spectacular recs.

The next two summers are the most important ones. And if you need more advice, please take an hour to read some old CC threads because they’ll answer all your questions.

Thanks for your advice! Oh, and by SSM I meant SSP. Anyway, yes I will be on the lookout for internships later on, but I am by no means a supergenius. Haha. I just keep running into programs that are ones that if you pay, you get in and I want to look into challenging programs that accept only focused students.

Mhm, yep, don’t get deceived by Columbia’s pre-college program or Brown’s program and whatnot. They’re just big Ivy League institutions hoping to make a few million dollars using their big name and overpriced nonsense.

Does your school have a list? I found [this list](http://www.parkwayschools.net/north/academics/guidance/Summer_Programs.pdf) through some Googling.

Thanks and what do you mean by list? Like a group of recommended programs?

Just a list of programs that your school may have compiled or recommended.
