Hi everyone! I’m a rising junior and in love with Barnard. I was just wondering if anyone here knew if doing one of the summer programs that Barnard offers to high school students would increase my chances of getting in at all. Also, if anyone who has been to one of these programs could tell me how it is, that would be much appreciated! Thanks so much for any answers!

My daughter did the Young Women’s Leadership Institute during the summer between her junior and senior years. I don’t know whether her participation helped her get admitted, but I know it fueled her passion and understanding of what Barnard was really about. I’m certain that led to her passionate essays.

I would say don’t count on it. My daughter attended for 2 summers. She did get accepted to Barnard, but most of her PCP friends did not, even though some of them had amazing grades and stories. You should do the PCP program for the sake of the program, but don’t expect any residual admissions benefit. The best thing would be ED, because Barnard is one of those schools were ED really helps!

Over the years there have been many enthusiastic debates over the value of ED application as a strategy to increase admissions chances. I am curious, s77theresa, as to what you base the above assertion upon?

churchmusicmom: I would guess it has something to do with the fact that Barnard accepted 44% of ED applicants and 25% overall. Plus it never hurts to demonstrate interest.
