hey ive been thinking about summer and i was wondering if yall know of any good summer programs.. like a math camp or any internships/volunteering opportunities that will look good on my college application..

RSI (http://www.cee.org/rsi) or NASA SHARP (www.nasasharp.com) are both great.

Do a forum search for others.

Well, in case you aren't a supergenius (I know I wouldn't have a shot at something like RSI, not saying you wouldn't have a chance), your state probably offers good summer programs. I know here in North Carolina we have Governors School and Summer Ventures (I plan on doing the latter as it's more science-oriented), both of which are free to those who qualify.

here's a link to a whole list:
http://www.ams.org/employment/mathcamps.html

(in case the link gets removed, go to ams.org, then "employment", then "mathcamps")

If you're interested in chemistry, there the Welch Summer Scholar Program. Its a chemistry research program at 5 universities in Texas (for TX residents only) where you work in a professor's lab for 5 weeks on an independent project.

Also, since you're in Houston, the Medical Center has quite a few volunteer opportunities. You could also contact some of the researchers at Herman or MD Anderson and ask if you could work in their labs over the summer.

Edit: I just read another one of your posts and since, you're a freshman, you probably arn't eligible for quite a few of the programs (Welch, RSI, Sharp etc). Still, you can look through the list texas137 provided for programs that accept rising sophomores.
