I volunteer with a local organization that serves first generation, minority, or low income students. I find summer programs primarily lower cost or that offer some/much financial aid. I live in the midwest so the choices skew that way. Over the next few days I will start posting my listings so that more students can take advantage of this.
Applications are open or will be open soon. Generally, the sooner you apply, the better likelihood of financial aid

@goingnutsmom
The friend’s daughter that is a freshman -what part of the country is she in? At that age my daughter did programs through the local zoo and university’s outreach programs. I totally recognize that transportation can be a problem.
Regarding the college student - what major and what year in college? Both my daughters were biology majors so I have many things bookmarked for that. I have some info on other majors just as nieces and others have asked for help.
@SnowballCity, my friend’s daughter is in Austin, Texas. She is looking around for local stuff but interested in anything as long as it’s free or low cost. She is Hispanic and currently 14 yrs old.
My daughter is a college freshman, also Hispanic and 18 yrs old and is currently an economics major. She is interested in law too. She prefers something that will pay her during the summer to have spending money during the school year. Open to anywhere. Currently she is looking at being an assistant in summer camps for middle schoolers.
Thank you for compiling this list.
@goingnutsmom - I am thinking. I am noodling around through sites. Does your daughter speak Spanish well? Concordia language camps in northern Minnesota do a lot of hiring. http://www.concordialanguagevillages.org/work-at-the-villages/staff-applications/summer-positions
The two Texas programs above are not Texas only. I realize I should have put in a comma
