I attended a summer program at Cornell "Sophomore Honors Program" 3 credits for 3 weeks there.

Stats:
1290SAT 3.5 weighted all other good stuff
low for Cornell but...

How much weight does one of these programs have on getting into the school?

not much, unfortunately. I was up there last summer and I know that a bunch of my friends had applied ED and they had sick stats and grades when there, yet still got flat out rejected. It's definitely not a guarantee.

summer programs from these ivies don't help, it's just a way for them to make $ to go toward fin. aid for their 'real' students.

I can't imagine that going to these programs would hurt; I'm sure they help, even if it's to a minimal extent.

It helps in the fact that you're actually doing something with your summer instead of goofing off at home with no activites...

exactly. it'll look good that you're working over the summer and obviously, it is hoped, learning. but it's not a guarantee that that school, or any other school, will end up taking you.

i went to a summer program and got in ED...don't know if that helps

Theres already an almost identical post to this.

These programs do not help that much. It shows you spent your summer well, but summers can be well spent for less than $5000 or w/e it costs. If you do poorly, it will definitely hurt your chances of admission.

meh, i mean i didn't go so that it'll look good on app (i am a B- isn't something really to be proud of "even though i didn't have any pre-req. for that course :S") anyway, i went for the experience and my parents had a little money for me, so i figured why not :)

Baysel did you take the class in 2003? I was there, doing the Gov class.

i was there in 2003 in kramnicks class
