Summer Programs

I was thinking about summer programs for next year and I was wondering what some of the good ones were (other than RSI).
Are any of the following worth attending and in what order would you rank them?

SSP
nasasharp
mathcamp
promys
sumac

Do you have any more suggestions for math or science summer programs?

i'm thinking of sharp and ssp next year. dont know which one i'll go to though, assuming i'm accepted at both

i've tried to get into SSP this year, but....they didn't accespt me :'( lol
i think it's b/c of my stats...
what kind of stats do you need in order to get in research camps like SSP or sharp? (i understand that it's not only about stats, but they also do count, don't they?)

Ross - its the program promys is based on.

The problem with summer programs is that the number of applicants can drastically change from year to year.

Take SSP for example. The number of applicants to SSP increased by 150% over the past year. Apparently, sophomores were hurt the most by this increase, except for sophomores who went to ISEF.

I have a feeling that SHARP (as well as any program for URMs) is unmeritocratic. At least two RSI acceptees this year were SHARP rejects. Why so? It's for increasing underrepresented minority participation in the sciences. Pair up URMs with RSI-level non-URMs and that will definitely discourage the URMs and make them feel bad.

It seems like math camps are easier to get into than summer science programs. But that's just my feeling after seeing oasis accepted to two last year and not getting accepted to any summer science programs this year and my rejections at summer science programs but acceptance to a summer math program.

What would be better SSP, or working at a lab doing research?

depends on what you do with both of them. doing serious research in a lab (not just washing test tubes) would usually beat out SSP in my view.
