Summer Quarter

What do you all know about summer quarter at UW?

Specifically I'm interested in taking physics 123 and possibly CSE 143.

I've heard that classes are easier and that many of the students enrolled in summer classes failed that class during the school year, thus making the curve more agreeable.

But, I'm also concerned that there won't be as many study centers open during the summer, which might make it harder to work together on homework, test preparation etc.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I can’t speak for Physics 123, but here’s a bit about CSE 143. There are computer labs with TAs open every day during the summer, except the first week of the quarter and finals week, I think.

For example, here’s the IPL (introductory programming lab) schedule for last summer:
[CSE 142/143 TA IPL Hours](CSE 142/143 TA IPL Hours)

At least with CSE, there will be the IPL every day, plus teacher office hours. TAs are pretty on top of things when emailing back.

I took Summer Quarter when I was between my Junior and Senior years of High School. Doing so not only made me fall head over in heels in love with the UW, but it was a great exposure to what college would be like. Overall Summer is fine as long as you don’t get too distracted from the warm weather and whatnot. Find a nice spot on the Quad to study for hours on end if that helps. The MSC to my recollection is open for about the same hours as the regular quarter, but I don’t know about the computer labs or physics. The classes are generally easier for that same reason you listed of people failing it their first time around. If you have nothing else to do this summer then summer quarter at the UW is a fine alternative.
