So how is everybody's (mandatory) summer reading going? Personally from what I have read so far I am not a fan of two of my three books.

I have to read Crime and Punishment and Catch-22 and do a bunch of stuff with it. Needless to say, I’m on page six on Crime and Punishment, and I don’t know where Catch-22 went. Oh, and Crime and Punishment starts on page five.

This year’s summer reading has been extremely difficult for me to complete. I have been feeling really lazy, and I just haven’t been able to bring myself to reading my assigned books. This past school year, I worked extremely hard and I want my summer to be the relaxing and stress-free break that I deserve. Unfortunately though, I have two entire books to read and I’m only on the 4th chapter of the first one. :/

I’m about half way through Freakonomics and it’s really good so far.

I have to read Animal Farm, and it wouldn’t be so bad except for the fact that every time I open it I remember I have to annotate… :/

I Love Animal Farm. Great book.

I have to read All the Pretty Horse. I’ve read the first 15 pages which I hate so far! I also have to read Picture by Lilian Ross for Film which I haven’t started

I read Animal Farm last year, it is a fantastic novel.
As for me, I’m being asked to read (but my new teacher doesn’t like annotating, so whoo, no annotations!) Uncle Tom’s Cabin and The Scarlet Letter.
I’ve already read both beforehand in my spare time, so I’m just going to review before school commences haha.

This summer I’m reading without being in a summer program or anything. I didn’t take into consideration of summer education enrichment programs before, I learned from my mistake when school ended for me about a month ago. So now I’m going to join summer programs from now on… Sooo I’m reading a bunch of books to make up for my lost opportunity…

But anyway, I finished reading Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It’s a fantastic book if you guys like fantasy and dragons! Currently on Eldest right now.

I adore Animal Farm. The blatant comparisons between the characters and notables in the Russian Revolution made me smile.

This summer I have to read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I know, not your average summer reading. I was surprised when I found out, as the previous year it was the Three Theban Plays. I didn’t even hear of it besides the movie starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. But I’m actually really glad they changed it. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a very visual book (with pictures and textual imagery) very entertaining as the point of view is from a precocious nine-year-old. Not your typical summer reading, but certainly the best.

Our class is assigned The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green. Finished it almost in one sitting, and I can attest to the fact that it is a fantastic read.

Crime and Punishment
Catch 22
Bonesetter’s daughter

Not excited for AP Lit lol

@yankeesfanatic Freakenomics is amazing! You should read the sequel as well…

I have to read
- Dinner at the Homesick Restraunt
- Native Son
- Anthem

Suckers, I don’t have to read anything! Well, I choose to because I do enjoy a halfway decent book, but there is absolutely nothing required. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’m in dumb english?

I have summer reading and I’m a college freshman next year! Seriously! I have to read a book called Farm City. It’s about urban farming. I haven’t started but people are on Facebook saying that it’s bad.

I’m required to read the Adventures of Huck Finn and it is so boring. I find it hard to push through it and I’m only half way. After I finish though I will read the Catcher in the Rye.

Oh man Huck Finn was rough. I love Catcher, though. I wish I’d done Animal Farm in school! I read it a few years ago but not for a class.

I have to read a couple novellas for a summer class. Read The Unknown Masterpiece (which is really just a long short story) and am working on The Sorrow of Young Werther. The former was great, the latter’s a little slow but I have confidence it’ll improve. I’m also reading Gombrich’s The Story of Art for a fun optional summer read my AP Lit teacher is doing, and I’m really enjoying it. Would never had read it on my own but I am glad I’m reading it now.

I have to read
Count of Monte Cristo

And I have a choice between some other books including
A long way gone (story about africa)
Love in the time of Cholera

Think I’m going to go with the second of the two, but still avoiding doing this.

A Long Way Gone is really good. I haven’t heard of the other one.

I have to read The Kite Runner this summer.

How to read literature like a professor for AP lit
