Summer reading

Anyone started the book yet? Any thoughts?

What's the summer reading assignment?

This should actually be an interesting book and I'm looking forward to reading it! I read Newsweek every week for my Contemporary World Problems course, and I pretty much read Fareed's editorial every week. His ideas are very sharp, well expressed and thought-provoking, and I really enjoy his style, which makes his writing not hard to follow but still requires quite a bit of intelligence on the reader's part. Of course, it helps that I'm really into politics and that his views are pretty much in line with mine!

I'm leaving it until later in the summer, so it'll be fresh.

You better make sure it's fresh. Get ready for a long essay test.

Haha, just kidding. There's basically a lecture and a discussion (which i must admit I missed due to... the beach lol)

My husband actually read the book last year and raved about it - he thought it was well-written and thought-provoking (I prefer fiction, so haven't tackled it myself).

Hi ASAP - I remember you from a thread I'd posted, so it's a small world that our kids are going to the same school!

Daughter or son, chatnoir? I remember you too, ( I think :o) .

My son hasn't started it yet, but I have, and it's very good reading.
A great pick, I think, to generate thought and discussion.

What's The Book????? I Probably Have To Pick It Up For My Son, Who Is Currently Away.
Thanks!

The book is The Future of Freedom by Fareed Zakaria.

ASAP, I have a son who will be a freshman this year - he's the one with the mom who gave him a hard time when he wanted to attend an unsupervised prom night sleepover :).

Oops, forgot to mention, thunderthighs, that you shouldn't have to pick it up if your son is a freshman - we just received our package in the mail yesterday with the book and all kinds of informative reading material and forms to fill out.

Ohhhhh...so that was you! :p Now I remember!

Much obliged, Chatnoir. He likely had it sent to where he is right now. Where are you guys from? He'll be coming from CT.

That may be why your son didn't get it yet - we live in WA, so mail from CA only takes a couple of days. I believe it was sent priority mail, so he should get it any day now if he hasn't already.

The summer reading et al package made it to Michigan Monday.

in Vermont on wednesday
