<p>No. They’ll send you some random book and suggest you read it, but actually reading it is wholly unnecessary (not that you shouldn’t if you want to).</p>
<p>BTW, the books they send out are usually pretty interesting. Our year it was Mountains Beyond Mountains, and it was great to learn about Paul Farmer and his work. If you want to go to them, they hold some discussion discussions about the summer book during orientation. A great way to meet people and talk about something that you found interesting in the book.</p>
