summer reading?

we are having a conversation on the facebook group about summer reading and nobody seems to know if we have it or not (for new students)...can a current student give any insight? thanks!

There will definitely be summer reading. Our year it wasn’t too bad. But once they give you the Core book list, it’s suggested you try to read the longer novels during the summer.

thanks!! will the summer reading list be mailed to us later on in the summer?

I actually might re-evaluate what I said. Based on what I’ve seen written in the Facebook group, you may not have summer reading. They told us ours at the same time they announced what books we’d need for the first semester of Core. Since you all have the list of Core books, but have not been asked to read anything for the first Core lecture yet, you might not have anything. The Core program gets tweaked every year, and it’s possible they’ll let you know later on what they would like you to read (if anything). It won’t be a book, probably an article. Ours was the UN Dec of Human Rights which was short and easy.

In the mean time, I would recommend getting a start on the core reading. There will be a ton of it. In addition to the list of books they gave you, you’ll also wind up with an enormous binder full of articles, treatises and the like. Galileo, Condorcet…long, thick stuff. The more you get done over the summer, the easier your Autumn will be.

I agree with Eternal Icicle (hey by the way!)- getting a head start on it will help; there is a ton of reading and at least knowing the general plot of some of the books beforehand will make reading during the school year go by a lot easier and faster.

thanks so much guys!
