Summer Research Internship

Has anyone ever been accepted to a Research Experience for Undergraduates, sometimes call REU internships? If so, I have a few questions. First of all is the living situation comparable to living in a dorm freshman year? IE sharing a room with a few roomates, or are you given your own room? Secondly, I understand that there are no illegal substances permitted on the premises - understandably so - but does anyone know if they have a policy for drug testing? There is nowhere in any of the applications, forms, health forms etc... that indicate any type of drug testing. Does that mean that it is safe to assume that there will be none?

Thank you for your help, hope to hear something soon.

My friend’s son did a Math REU at North Carolina State last summer. He shared a University owned furnished 4-bedroom apartment with 3 other guys. His girlfriend flew out and stayed for a long weekend, no problem. No drug testing.
