Summer research internships

DISCLAIMER: I am already in undergrad.

I'm hoping to gain some valuable research experience during the summer as I decide between applying for just an M.D. or an M.D./Ph.D. I am currently in a BS/MD program at the moment, but I want to keep my options open at this point. As far as I know, most of these research internships are moderately competitive, provide a generous stipend, and accept anywhere from 10-40 students at a time. I currently have six on my list at the moment (One with the North Shore-LIJ Health system, one with Cornell's medical school, one with the Sloan-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center, and three science/biomedical ones affiliated with Harvard and Harvard Medical School). My question is this, are six summer research internships a lot to apply to, or should I consider applying to even MORE of them? Thank you!
