Summer research or internship?

I have a question. I am in my second year of c.c. (after 8 year military veteran) and will be a transfer student for Fall 2012. I feel as if I will have enough class experience to get a decent internship for the summer in computer science.

I def want to go str8 through and get my masters, maybe my Ph.D in computer science, possible double majoring in math. I know research will help me get into good masters and higher programs, but does industry also favor students that have completed research projects?

I would say I have a stronger calling to applying for summer research next year at major universities opposed to an intern job.

Any thoughts?

I think good research projects would help get your foot in the door in industry.
And I bet you’ll do more interesting work anyway, in research.

It would definitely help you get into masters as a lot of profs would ask you to continue the work for them and put your name in their papers.
