Hey,
I was wondering how exactly people get research mentors and start their own research projects. I’m curious as to whether we must simply find a local college professor (who specializes in the area of interest) and email him/her? I am completely new to this so any knowledge on this subject is appreciated.
Thanks.
Some places have research programs for high school students. There is a list on the home page of mysummeradvisor.com Also, try doing a search for academic programs on that site in your area of interest.
Also, ask your teachers. They may know of professors who have worked with students in the past. Also, if your friends have parents who are doctors, scientists, etc. ask them. Then proceed as you suggested. Sometimes, you just have to send a bunch of emails and get a bunch of rejections and hope something works out.
