Summer Scholar Program at UIUC

I was recently invited by email to attend the Summer Scholars Program at UIUC. The link to the info on this is http://iefx.engineering. illinois.edu/iefx-summer-scholars (remove the space between . and illinois).

I was hoping that someone with experience could tell me about the benefits of the program. Basically, it means I can start class during the summer and get ahead while earning credits! Pretty f'in awesome if you ask me. Lemme know.

Some help would be appreciated.

well not alot of ppl are going to have advice on this bc the program was only created two years ago. but i went in and talked to one of the Deans and yes the program is very nice if you can afford it… you are taking over 6 credit hours for only one real class and projects class so you are classified as a full time student, so just for that one real class it will cost over 6,000! bc of housing and tuition. She personally told me it is not worth that much money unless you jsut have a ton of money to spend haha

Ok. Any idea how many people were invited to participate? Also, how does the James Scholars program work? I’m looking to transfer after freshman year so would that extra course help me get ahead at all?

The James Scholar program allows you to register for classes early along with a couple smaller privileges as long as you maintain the designated gpa.

As for the Summer Scholars program… It’s really up to you. Honestly it’s nothing more than starting college a little earlier than everyone else. If you still need to take a course like Calculus I it could be worth it, I guess, but for most people it’s not necessary.

Well last year U of I had 1500 freshman admitted into the engineering department, so I would think that everyone admitted into the college of engineering would receive this offer. And james scholar does not make a difference for your freshman year, only going into sophomore and older you are able to register for classes earlier. and i think the qualifying gpa for it is around 3.6

And you want to transfer out of u of i after your freshman year?

enjoy your summer before college. its honestly going to be one of the best times of your life. relax, hang out with friends, play video games, and get some poon. you’ll have 4 years of work ahead of you once you start, and your summers will be filled with internships and classes.

Believe me, poon is no commodity around here.

I just want to get ahead, and that’s why I’m considering this. Anyone actually gone through with the program? I’m interested in how you dealt with the start being so close to (and in my case before) the end of high school?

Also, how’s the food? Haha
