Summer Scholars

My son is a current Sophomore and highly interested in attending ND. He was planning on attending Summer Scholars program in Summer of 2015 prior to Junior year, and then Intro to Engineering summer session prior to his Senior year. While applying for Summer Scholars, he found out you have to be rising Junior AND you have to be age 16 prior to July 11, 2015 (of which his birthday is in August). Does anyone know why this restriction is in place or whether they grant any exceptions to this age criteria? Seems kinda crazy that late July and August birthdates are held out of this great program.

Call the program office and ask. I have found ND program offices very approachable, and then you will get the “official” answer to those questions.

Summer Scholars is a fantastic program for those interested in attending Notre Dame. Because of it’s reputation as a top-notch summer program, however, the Office of Pre-College Programs gets flooded with applications. I’m sure that the age restrictions are partly a way to lessen the load of applicants. Also, the university has changed some of its policies for legal reasons in terms of how old students have to be in order to stay in the residence halls: this may also factor into the July 11 rule.

I would suggest you do as Sassymon said and give the office a call. They’re usually pretty helpful.

Good luck,
