i posted this on the wrong thread ealier but my question is that im planning on taking summer school so do you guys know if fafsa will pay for my summer school at UCLA? or is it just during the regular school year?

You have to apply for summer specifically. There are forms/links on the summer session page typically.

fafsa??? you mean the gov?

yeah. you have to register for summer school by the 30th and apply for summer financial aid by the 30th… of this month.

What if we want to take a class over summer in UCLA, but we are currently waiting for Cal decisions on friday.

Must we pay a fee to reserve a spot but if it turns out we do not go to UCLA for summer session is there a penalty? Do we need to drop the class? Are there refunds? Will we just be down some money??

Thank you, any information would be great.

there is a penalty if you drop. I think a $150? And until you SIR I think you have to pay the extra fees and cannot apply for financial aid.

But I don’t know what happens once your status changes for either Cal or LA. Maybe they take back the non-uc charge? You need to call summer sessions for that.

You could take UCLA summer school and transfer the credits to Cal, btw…

So wait, to get financial aid for summer school we have to apply by the 30th? Or does that only apply to the FAFSA? Is that regardless of which summer session I would be enrolling in?

you get limited financial aid after that deadline. as far as I know, this only applies for UCLA. I’m not sure about other schools.

and it’s for the special summer school application, which looks over your 2010 fafsa. and it is for all sessions.

Okay, thanks. Man, I thought I would have some breathing room here before I had to start worrying about this. But I guess it’s either this or not go to UCLA at all, so I’ll take it.

Oh, and I’ll definitely be calling to get this straightened out, but I have to take two more major prep courses this summer in order to be admitted. Does anyone know if I need to take these at UCLA, or could I do them at another CC? I’ll have 68 units at the end of the semester, don’t know if that makes any difference.

i called the financial aid office the other day just as confused. as long as you’ve filled out your FAFSA, you’re good to go, but also, go here: https://www.fao.ucla.edu/summer_portal/ and at the bottom, proceed to application. fill that out by april 30th.

in order to have a good chance at getting financial aid, you have to take at least 6 units or else you’re pretty much going to have to pay for the class or take out a loan for it, like me, since i’m only taking one 4 unit class.

Do we need to actually be enrolled in the units we put down on the application first, or could I file the application with the classes I plan to take and then enroll later? There are a few things I need to get straightened out before I decide when/where I’ll be taking my classes, so I don’t know if I’ll be ready to commit by the 30th.
