I'm not sure what is better to do in the summer besides relaxing.
Should I take summer school at Northwestern's CTD
Or at a local high school to get ahead.
Or do some extra curriculars such as research or baseball.
What do colleges like more?

Which one do you think that you will enjoy the most? I am in a similar position, and I am leaning towards volunteering over the summer. If you do something academic, it could be in a subject that interests you. For an EC, you could intern, do research, volunteer, or work in a field related to your passions.

I'm assuming you're a junior/sophomore :)

If there is a course that you really want to take/need to take and can't do it during the year, then its a good idea to think about the summer school. However, if you're cool with your courses, and your getting close to the time when you have to start applying to university, then you should work on the ec's.

In terms of what colleges like more:
It depends. You should not give up a summer to ECs if it means sacrificing a course that you can't take any other time, and colleges prefer you to have. However, in general, colleges do like to see things other than just school reports.

So......basically, do the ECs if summer school is not neccessary, the colleges will prob like that more.....

= my $0.02

I just saw that you are a freshman. College won't see what you do this summer unless it is an internship, job, or class for which you receive credit, or if it is mentioned in your recommendations.

OH! You're a freshman!!! ok, well.....most of the stuff in my last post still applies...but like yemaya said, the first summer won't count unless you mention it in your recs...

So it prob better to do an internship, research, vol work, that sort of thing maybe... :)
