Summer School Yea or Nay???? (Up Coming Freshman)

I will be a Freshman this coming August. I was thinking about taking some classes during the summer such as Geometry, and a couple of others at our local community college. I was wondering if this was a good idea or should I just skip it. If it's a good idea, and you have taken classes over the summer in the past or plan to do so now, which classes did and will you take? Sorry, a bit nervous. First time on this board.

This is one of the last few summers of your childhood. Enjoy it. Do some volunteer work if you want, but there’s absolutely no reason to take classes.

I have taken summer classes. They are faster paced because they have less time to cover the material. I would take like one or two. With this you can balance summer fun with schooling.

Don’t do it. Enjoy your summer. I took Alg II last summer, and you won’t learn anything anyway.

Take geometry but nothing else.

^Agreed. Geometry and you’ll be fine.

Thank you all for answering! So, Geometry it is. I do have one last question. I really hate Phys Ed, not a real Phys Ed person. lol! I’m sure many feel the same. Would it be ok to take a phys ed class along with the Geometry?

Is PE a req? I mean if you want to get it out of the way sure, but make sure you still have time to have fun over the summer.

Yes, we have to have phys ed in our freshman, sophomore, and jr. year. I’d love to get it out of the way. So, I’d like to take it over the summer before each year. That way I can concentrate on my core (for the lack of a better word) subjects.

^
My school let me get out of PE by exercising on my own time without taking a formal course. It was kind of stupid on their part because I could easily have lied about what I did, but maybe your school would allow something like that.

I would get PE out of the way. It’s fun in school, but I wish I had another block for another academic class, maybe like have doubled up in Spanish so I wouldn’t have to take it online. Do whatever floats your boat.

halcyonheather, unfortunately not. Again, thanks for the advice everyone.

Just don’t take any…summer before I started high school was my last real summer, because last summer I had to do school stuff, and this summer I will barely have any time to relax…

Geometry is a joke, nobody needs geometry. Get it out of the way during the summer, but don’t devote too much time to it.

Focus on enjoying your summer. It really is the last summer you can relax. If you are aiming for a great college, prepare for 4 grueling years!
