summer school

is getting accepted for summer school also very selective (in this case, stanford)?

is it similar to undergraduate admissions? (requirements, what they see.. essays, ECs, grades..)

what is that they check? or do they ask you to write an essay?

No. But it might or might not still be a good thing to do. What are your alternatives?

Look at the particular school's web site; it will tell you what you need to submit. My experience is that it is not as demanding as undergrad admissions and is not as selective. Offhand, I haven't heard of anyone applying who hasn't made it. Has anyone else?

well then, they must be very bright and well rounded students. i am dying to apply for stanford's summer school in my junior year. though, i dont think my ec is stellar. i'll maybe take the ACT and neeevvveeerr show my PSAT scores (they are reallly bad). i am planning on to create a new EC by myself.

Oooh, a made up EC. I like that. We homeschooled and my dd had a made up one. Well, she spent all this time on something so we put it down ...

Actually, she went to the Brown summer program following 9th grade and had no testing at all at that point. I submitted a portfolio, which was basically course descriptions and a few work samples. She did well in that summer so she was grandfathered into the program the next year. She never even took the PSAT because the way the College Board asks questions isn't the way her brain works. Either that, or she doesn't like them.

You probably know I'm a big fan of the ACT. I'm not sure you can use them for the Stanford summer program, though. Check the web site -- I know my son was considering doing this one year but he hadn't taken the SAT and so couldn't apply. He ended up going to the Carnegie Mellon program.
