i am considering taking summer school at UCI or a community college close to my house. i am a chemical engineering major and will be taking GEs during the summer (i think). does it matter if i take it at a university or a cc? im thinking that i’ll get better grades if i do it at a cc

should i take GEs for summer school or take classes that are required for my major?

i am thinking about taking 2 classes over the summer. how many do people usually take?

Grades at a CC does not transfer towards your GPA. Search on assist.org if you prospective course is transferable to UCLA. If not, go to Boelter Hall 6426 to garner a Course Equivalency Form.

Up to you, depends on how busy you want your schedule to be. Don't take more than 3 major courses outside though.

2 is the average for a session. You can take more if you want to catch up or get ahead. I had 3 though, and it was 9-5 no break. :(

It's up to you, dawritingmachine. I'm assuming you'll have taken care of Math 3C, LS 1, Chem 14A, and Chem 14B at least before this year ends. I think it makes more sense for you to knock out an "easy" GE with a science class or a writing II class even during the summer. Are you going to do both sessions? I'm OOS too and so summer school costs roughly the same as an in-state quarter.

so lets say that i take courses at UCI and dont like the grades that i received. do those have to be calculated into my GPA? can i not transfer them over

You grades will follow you around for the rest of your life. Say you apply to graduate school - you will have to submit your grades from all previous institutions. You can't pick and choose which courses you transfer over. I don't know how it works from UC to UC. I think with CCC's you report that you're attending another institution (or not) during the summer or whatever on their application and then submit your transcript from the CCC to UCLA.

at uci, session 1 is 5 weeks. if i take 2 classes, will that feel kinda like taking 4 classes? compared to our 10 week quarters here

im also thinking about doing session 2...which is summer school for the entire summer. possibility of getting burned out? haha i know this should be something that i answer myself..
