Summer schooling

At my school, a lot of motivated kids take summer classes so they can finish their grade 12 classes faster, and presumably take college level courses in their senior year, thus impressing their prospective universities. What irritates me about this is that these kids then only take like 1 or 2 courses at my school, and spend most of their time at the local university. Is that truly being part of the school? To me, it just seems, I don’t know, wrong to bypass the entire system and skedaddle over to another place. I could’ve taken Social Studies 11 in the summer, but I chose not to because I wanted to be in a real class with a good teacher and my peers, not some Socials-on-speed course taking up my summer.

I dunno, I just don’t like the idea at all. High school is supposed to be a big part of your life, not some rung in the ladder for you to climb to go to Stanford or something.
