Okay, I just wanted to make sure it can be emailed and does not have to be sent by mail, correct?
@bob6500 Email is fine.
Also, do the emails from school representatives also need to be submitted by the end of today? I am not compltely sure if my counselor got the chance to submit yet, and he might do it later this weekend. The application status has not been updated either.
Just submitted…good luck to all!
Well oops, forgot to mail my transcript today and every place is closed… Hopefully having a late transcript won’t count against me too harshly
lmao 2 hr 20 minutes left… still grinding…
@kattymiao
I wrote an essay for number 6, since my situation is “kinda” peculiar.
I attended South Korean Middle School in 9th grade, and attended like a gifted/specialized High school in South Korea in 10th grade. (Korean education system is little different. 1-6th: elementary, 7-9th: middle school, 10-12th: high school) And I made a decision to come abroad and study in the States… and that explains a lot about why my SAT and ACT scores are not that good enough. I thought that this question would be a good explanation to make
Just finished. My transcript will unfortunately be going in a bit late, so hopefully they won’t penalize too harshly on that. There is no submit button, correct? I’m assuming we just save everything and wait.
@heslumbersnot LOL I’m right there with you, 50 minutes left and 2 essays and maybe supplemental material to go!!! How bad is it if I don’t put a supplemental material?
@MadAstro that’s definitely something I would’ve explained.
Do you guys think I could edit my essays today, or would it count as late? I’d like to look at what I wrote in a rush yesterday and make sure I didn’t make any mistakes.
Hi everyone! I just submitted everything yesterday. @MadAstro my situation is kind of similar to yours. I attended school in China in 9th grade and then moved to the States last year. However, I personally didn’t feel like moving hurt me academically in a way that would’ve required an explanation for #6 so I just left it blank lol
I just found out that even if I get in, I probably won’t be able to attend because of the cost if I get in I’m definitely applying for financial aid, but who knows if I’ll get any because my family is mid/upper middle class.
@coffeeaddicted summer programs are hecka expensive, and I totally feel the same! I did hear that Mu Alpha Theta offers $2k grants to a few students going to math/science programs though.
@coffeeaddicted I’ve heard SSP is pretty generous with aid. I really hope they are, because my family’s income bracket is right at the top of what they ask for–just under 100k–but we live in California (aka we have super high taxes on, like, everything).
I’m pretty confident that my essays were good, but I’m a little worried about my teacher recs, specifically the ranking part. I go to an ultra-competitive high school, so it’s highly unlikely that I’m one of the top few students one of my teachers has ever taught (the only teacher for whom I’m one of the top few students ever was my freshman year math teacher, but I couldn’t get his rec for this), and I’m afraid my physics teacher won’t even mark me in the top few this year because I barely scraped an A in his class first semester. He told me he wrote a good rec for it, but still.
@tonystarkofwinterfell I think you don’t have much to worry about. Teachers like to see the kind of initiative it takes to apply to these programs and that should’ve helped you. I’m worried because one of my teachers wrote my rec, but I didn’t get another teacher one. I got two other recs from two of my lab supervisors who know me better than the rest of my teachers (my school and all the classes are so big I felt bad asking any other teachers). I’m just worried I didn’t follow directions and that will hurt me. It was really a trade-off and I think I did what was best for my app but idk how strict they are with the recommendation thing, and it may have not been the best thing.
^All of the three teachers I asked were actually math teachers lol. I don’t think I am that close with any of my pure science teachers coincidentally, and also thought it would be better if I didn’t follow their one math/one science teacher suggestion.
Also, I finished my application on the night of the deadline; is it normal to not see my test scores and transcripts on my application status yet?
@bob6500 Yes, they’re still working on updating everyone’s statuses. They said to check back on Monday, and if the statuses are still not changed, they’ll work with you to make it happen.
Has anyone else had their transcript mailed in before the deadline and not yet had their status changed? I had mine sent in on Wednesday and it hasn’t changed. I’m waiting until this Wednesday or Thursday to say anything but just wondering if I’m the only one.
^I think that should be fine.
Just curious, how heavily will typos in the essays be factored into the admission process? I copied my essays from a google doc, and I had to make some changes to some of the character counts, so I feel like I might have accidentally made a couple of typos by mistake.
