Congrats! @ktorres
@ktorres Nice!! Hopefully I still have a chance.
@BunnyRawr Got it today. Have fun at NMT! I’m at CUB!
Anyone in from the astrophysics wait list yet?
Thanks! @BunnyRawr
I’m having a hard time choosing between SSP and CMU SAMS. At SAMS I know I would benefit from taking their physics over the summer (one of my weaknesses) as well as their SAT class (my SAT score needs to improve). But, at the same time, SSP seems like an awesome program and more prestigious as well. If anyone has any insight or advice, please let me know!
I think it’s been said before that you only get 4-5 hours of sleep at SSP. Also, the course material that comes later in SSP is supposedly ridiculously hard for those who don’t know it, so you would have to ask for help a lot. If your physics foundation is unstable, it may be better taking SAMS. Also, SATs are very important, but you can also take courses after the summer, although since it’s your senior year you may not have too much time, in which case it may be better to take the summer course instead.
Definitely go SSP. I think the person above is probably just on the waiting list and really needs that spot… haha. Just kidding. But if I had the choice, I’d definitely pick SSP. It’s prestigious and challenging in the best way.
Also depends on the price SAMS is free and SSP is 5k
I got in! I’m a domestic applicant, and I was accepted only last night. I submitted my financial aid application today, but I’ve read that aid decisions have been tough.
Are they so bad because kids aren’t getting enough money that they have to pick from the alternate list until they get kids who can afford it?
How long did it take to get the aid decisions for those of you who did get them?
Also, have any of you received the travel aid?
@astrocosmos1 congrats! Was this for astrophysics? And did your decision status change when you got pulled off from the waitlist?
@Sinphirho2 Yes to both. It now says “admitted” instead of “alternate list.” Astrophysics at CUB.
@astrocosmos1 Congrats! I’ll see you there! I’ll PM you the link to the GroupMe us CCers at CUB have.
@frazzledazzle Thank you!
@astrocosmos1 My financial aid was generous, though i did not receive travel aid. I think they do a great job of making it affordable as you need it. They took about a week to post mine… But it might be faster for you now that they’ve done most of them.
@iamthe1 SSP all the way! While summer courses and scores are great, I think colleges are much more impressed by passion and research. It is a daunting program for everybody, but we’re supposed to help eachother though it. I for one do not think it’s an opportunity you can pass up. Hope that helps
Aside from the facebook page, is there a group chat for NMT?
@ericthe I don’t think so. I’ll follow frazzledazzle’s lead and start a group on the GroupMe app called “SSP NM Tech 2017”. Anyone who wants in the group can send me a PM here on CC with their phone number so that I can add them to the groupchat.
@computer-fire I think @schrodingersowl should get the credit; she created the group! It is a good idea to start talking to fellow SSPers before the Facebook group starts being utilized.
Are the chances for remaining alternates in admission nearly negligible at this point?
I applied through Questbridge and my portal says “admitted.” Does this mean I got in? I haven’t gotten any emails from questbridge about it, so I’m hoping it’s not a false flag.
