Summer Science Program 2017

Do we need to have SAT II subject tests or is that just an extra part of the application?

No test scores are required - just send the ones you’re happy with @Anonymous1418

@xlhx33 Thank you!

My relevant test scores:
SAT-- i’ve taken it but the scores haven’t come out.
SAT Subject Math-- 800
AP CS/BC-- 5
PSAT-- around 1300s

Hey, those of you working on your SSP applications right now might also want to send in an application for YSPA at Yale, which is a similar program (yspa.yale.edu).

@jjoojjoo Roughly 30 domestic students and 6 international students are at each SSP campus for the astrophysics program.

Hey guys, do you think having a lack of previous astrophysics research experiences affects the chance of admission?

@triacontahedron Read FAQ question #1 http://www.summerscience.org/admissions/applicant-faqs/

@isFress is this the same for biochemistry?

@jjoojjoo I think that this year they are only accepting 24 students total for the biochemistry program since it is its first year. I only know about astrophysics, sorry.

@isFress Only 24?! That sounds really competitive. I think not many people are applying because it’s the first year.

6 international students get in each campus every year? Boy that’s gonna be a hell lot of competitive for us. What’s the status of YSPA though?

Do you think I have to submit my SAT scores from eight grade (I’m a sophomore now)? It says that they require all test scores that you have, but does that include middle school?

@ham4greys Have you taken the SAT since then? If so, just put your highest score.
Even if you haven’t taken it since then, I doubt they care about your middle school scores

@ham4greys I don’t think so, since it’s middle school. you can email and ask though

Anyone who’s applying or any past SSP alums that are lurking want to PM me essays? I’ll send mine too.

Hello guys,

I am currently a sophomore applying to the SSP Biochemistry program. Currently, my scores are:
PSAT: 1410
SAT 2 Biology E: 800
SAT 2 Math 2: 800
AP Biology 4
(Other AP scores are irrelevant like AP seminar and AP HUGs)

My course load for Freshmen year was AP Calculus AB, AP Seminar, AP Human Geography, AP Biology, and Chinese
For my current sophomore year is AP Calculus BC, Honors English 10, AP World History, and AP Chemistry, and Chinese 2.

My teacher recommendation letter was VERY good from my AP Calculus AB teacher and AP Biology teacher.

Although my SSP question responses are around 1200-1400, some parts are generic (ex. why do you want to be in SSP) but some parts are my stories.

I’ve heard from my senior friend (who went to Astrophysics last year) that there are only one or two sophomores for each year at Astrophysics. This scares me because I really want to get into this program

Do you guys think I have a high chance of getting in?

No one could possibly know the answer to your question.

@gkdudtlffj Your stats is so impressive! Even if you can’t get in this year I think you have a good chance next year :slight_smile:

Do you guys know if there’s a submission button I should click on once I’m done with everything? Just to make sure.
