SSP cannot disclose size of alternate’s list. Despite the three day deadline for accepted people, many people apply for FA, so alternates cannot expect to be taken off the list until late next week.
Does anyone know if any sophomores got into biochem?
I got rejected but here are my stats for any ppl in the future who are interested:
ACT - 36
PSAT - 1490
AP BC Calc - 5
APUSH - 5
SAT Math level 2 - 800
SAT US History - 800
GPA - around 98/100
I thought my essays were pretty good and I had a fun time responding to some of them. My teachers said they wrote good rec letters. I hope everyone who attends SSP has a great time!
You have excellent grades! I think one thing you are missing is Physics or Biochem related test.
When can alternates expect to hear back again as to whether or not they’ll be offered a spot?
@kyang8093 I think sometime in the next week or so.
I was gonna keep my stats confidential here but I was rejected. So:
GPA: 3.98(UW), 4.6 (W)
AP Classes: Took 12 over the three years. Scores are Calc BC (5 both BC and AB), 4 on AP bio, 4 on AP chem, 4 on AP world, 4 on HUGS, and 3 on Seminar. Taking 5 this year but haven’t taken the exam yet.
Standarized Test:
ACT - 35 Comp
SAT Math 2 - 800
SAT Chem - 800
SAT Bio - 800
EC/Research Experience -
Immunology and Organic Chem Internship 2017 Summer at CNBU
Red Cross Youth Council
Red Cross Club President
Percussion Ensemble Section Leader
Portland Youth Phil
HS Swim Team Captain
Awards:
Washington State WMEA Solo and Ensemble 1st Place in Large Ensemble (2016, 2017)
Washington State WMEA 2nd place in Timpani Solo (2017)
To future applicants,
Scores don’t really matter in prestigious camps like SSP. Already 90% of the applicants already have extremely good scores and that won’t really do much to differentiate you (scores only prove that you are qualified for the lab). What matters is YOUR ESSAYS. Teacher Recs help too, but you guys should know that majority of the applicants already have great teacher recommendations. Essays are the major determinant that will decide if you will get into SSP or not. So if you really want to get into SSP, work on your essays like there’s no tomorrow.
Does anyone know how long it has historically taken them to release financial aid decisions?
@MeanestBean It took about a week after financial aid forms were sent in. Maybe less than that, but I don’t remember super well since it’s been a year haha. It won’t be too long.
@frazzledazzle I see, thank you! Do you think you can speak to how generous they usually are? Our family makes around $100k a year and I have a sibling in college.
@frazzledazzle hey! i cant message you first cause i cant find the button, so can you please send me a message? i got accepted to CUB and i wanted to know your experience in SSP. thanks!
Hey guys
I recently got accepted into SSP at Purdue and into the MITES program at MIT. What should I do?
Would you mind sharing your profile or the most important aspects that you think SSP valued to offer you? Thanks.
Small school
Psat-1360
Established coder dojo program for k-12 kids
No act sat or ap
College classes
Did a research internship at UCSC
My essays were easily the most important part
Also 200+ community service
@drsrake6477 MITES has been there forever and well known, SSP biochemistry is at its 2nd year…
Thanks.
@love2cheeses @drsrake6477 Although SSP biochem is only in its second year, the SSP program has been around since the late 1950s and continues to be one of the longest-running and most prestigious summer programs. Biochem carries the connotations of SSP astrophysics and SSP in general.
although both are good programs, mites seems a better option.
Financial aid decisions are out, hopefully waitlist results will be too.
