Hey everyone. I’m a junior applying for the Summer Science Program and there’s a page where you enter test scores. I haven’t taken the ACT, so I won’t bother with that, but there are slots for both the PSAT and SAT.
You see, my PSAT score from my sophomore year was horrid - 181 (54 CR, 65 M), and I was thinking of just not entering those scores and instead only submitting my SAT score - 2290 (730 CR, 770 M). What should I do?
Perhaps contact them anonymously. For the mean time, don’t worry about it because you can always enter your PSAT score from this year once it’s released on 1/7
Fellow SSP applicant here! I’m going to wait until PSAT scores come out before I apply (I feel like I did way better this time than last). I’m also submitting my ACT scores, but not my SAT (it was subpar).
Do you have a specific interest in astronomy? I wasn’t sure if everyone who does SSP wants to study astronomy/physics or if it was just a program that lots of people with varying interests do. I personally want to study astronomy, which is why I’m applying.
@coffeeaddicted Although I don’t plan to major in physics/astronomy in college (most likely engineering and maybe finance), I have a very deep interest in astronomy. I’d love to become an astronomer if it weren’t for the difficulty in finding a job.
And regardless if I get into SSP or another prestigious science program, astronomy will always be my most passionate hobby (if only I could afford those dang expensive telescopes haha, I’m stuck with binoculars). And since you’re interested, here’s a link to a summer program at Yale in astrophysics - http://yspa.yale.edu/
@neoking I heard about the YSPA! I might apply if I have time after this other crap ton of applications. And becoming an astronomer is a lot of work from what I’ve heard (you have to get a Ph.D. as in any other research profession) but if you’re passionate about it you could surely pursue it–if not, you can become an engineer in an astronomy lab (the lab where I work is literally 1/2 engineer 1/2 scientist lol)
Hi fellow SSP applicants! The Yale program sounds really cool, but since it’s relatively new… has anyone heard much firsthand about it (program content or experiences)?
@angie414, I’m at Yale and I know some of the people setting it up. I didn’t do SSP, but I think YSPA will be similar to SSP, but with some new research methods and more coding. They have a contact page, and you can go there to ask questions.
