awww!!!!!!!!! SSP2009 hmm. i applied last year and i got in but i didn't actually go...i guess if u have questions about the application i can answer, but i didn't actually go to SSP, so...

haha i was really close to going

and there are probably more experienced people here who are answering questions anyway, i see :)

Do we know when exactly they start accepting applicants?

depends on what deadline you applied to
usually two weeks after the first deadline and then two weeks after the last deadline

Guh. Thanks. I'm editing my app around right now.

SighIts sunday today so courier couldn't be sent. I'll be sending the docs tomorrow. It takes about 4-5 days for a courier to reach the US from India :( So I will probably miss the deadline by a day or two.

I'm gonna send tomorrow, priority or whatev, since it's to North Carolina, which would take awhile from west coast. I'm editing as well. don't know what else I should put...I hope I don't get rejected from both RSI and this. I'm really stumped on "notable achievement" though. I don't have any national/state awards like everyone else.

tomjonesistheman, I don't have any national/state awards either. I'm stumped on that one too but it's probably going to be something personal, since that's all I've got.

haha i remember missing the priority deadline by a day and got my results with everyone who applied by the actual deadline.

Still working on my essays -_-. Do they only release results twice?? What if I send it in a week after the first deadline?

For notable statement, I stayed away from my personal awards even though they're at the international level (my recs would sure talk about them :)). Instead, I talked about something that really made me proud, even though it wasn't done by me personally.

don't do what i did and turn in the app like on the last possible date and then get waitlisted lol. I was lucky to get off the waitlist though.

cool. what was the admit rate on CC last year? did most people get accepted, or did a lot get rejected?
also how is everyone doing for #1? i wrote about some personal experiences then went on to discuss more specific topics. how are you guys coming up with topics?

hmmm, i'm not too sure about the acceptance rate, but i do know that a good number of people get accepted off the waitlist. at socorro last summer, there were 6 kids there who were waitlisted, myself included.

this didn't really answer any questions, but it might still be relevant for some people lol

I think the official acceptance rate is something like 30%? But if you look at the SSP thread from last year, it seems like the rate for CC kids is SIGNIFICANTLY higher ... ahh.

I just finished editing my essays to be under the word limit (I'm under. But barely.) and I'm going to go print that out; my dad's doing the FA thing and my physics teacher hopefully (hopefully!!) will have his rec done tomorrow, so I can go ahead and send it in. Envelope is prepared and everything. Good luck, you guys :) It'd certainly be really cool to meet some of y'all this summer.

I just wrote from my heart. I didn't go into too many 'specific' details. Just wrote about my favt topic in phy-nuclear science(I mentioned relativity but had no space to describe it) and astronomy, just general stuff like how matter was initially creatd and this and that. More of philosophical stuff at places lol. I'm not exactly a super genius or international award winning guy :p
I had one hell of a time trying to get in the word limit in all the questions....

^same here. is there a page limit? Mine is barely over 2 pages, times new roman, 12 point font, normal margins. about 1400 words total. im glad that the CC acceptance rate was way higher..meaning I have higher chances..sadly I can only attend Ojai due to time conflicts with socorro :[ so I guess my chances are lowered.
and yea, it'd be cool to meet some of you if I got in to Ojai. hopefully, my chances are destroyed by the fact that I could not attend socorro.

^ I hope that I get to meet all of you too.

I'm now stuck in the land of submitted-the-app-have-nothing-to-do. It's boring :(

Have fun with the deadlines, though!

EDIT: Since when am I over 400 posts? I can't believe I missed it....

LOL yes...the admit rate on CC is like 90%...hahahaha

i noticed that. like everyone who applied last year either got in or got in off the waitlist. that seems very promising.

wait, will i get waitlisted if i dont submit my app by the 20th? since they said that they do a new round starting on the 7th, and my only concern is that all the spots will be taken by then.

no
i submitted after the first round and they definitely still had spots
