^ Any guesses on rough admit rates for your SSP classmates to MIT/Caltech?

After paging through those two's RD/EA threads, I'm scared to apply.

About a third of us get in to MIT. And about a third of us get in to Caltech. I don't know how much that overlaps.

haha alright I'm calm now :]
but I didn't do anything yesterday...wow so much stuff to do today ahhhh

"My parents are now saying that they should have applied for financial aid. I gave them the fin ap, but they never filled it out - grr..."

mine are saying the same thing, I gave them the fin ap too but they didn't do it :/

but then again I've only been waitlisted so it might not even be a problem (hopefully it will be a problem :P)

Not a lot of students from my year applied to MIT though. Some of us were prejudiced against there. For the number that did apply, our acceptance rates were through the roof. :P

ps. I'm on now!

I made a facebook group.
(for Ojai)

^ Classic Ojai, always behind Socorro (who had a group yesterday ;))

@petri - good thing flights are cheap, though. It looks like I may be able to round-trip between $300-350.

@pianista, secshisuhee - Good news :) I'd be first ever from my school/area to go to either. And they both look amazing academic/social-wise.

@book_worm
that's awesome, at least you can catch a break there :)

Does seeing other people being waitlisted mean SSP has filled up?

ehh, thats a very very good question. honestly, i would assume so, since third round decisions havent come out yet, so intuitively one would think that those waitlisted would have been deferred if there was still room yet. thats just my logic.

cmon soccoro people, pm me. i wanna talk to more of you guys =D.

That is quite disappointing... that means all of third rounders will either be waitlisted or rejected.

^ I highly doubt that. Being either "waitlisted" or "deferred" shouldn't be contingent upon avaliablity, but rather ability. It is kind of odd that someone in an earlier round is going straight to the wait list, but I guess deferral is just one step above waitlist on the preference chart.

Agreed with velleity. They can't have filled up the 72 spots yet, I don't think.

Word. xD

^ Thanks, that really relieves me greatly. I guess the people at SSP have enough experience and foresight to allocate and reserve spots for the three rounds, so that all have a fair chance to get in.

nah, as i alluded to before, i honestly believe that deferral refers more to ability (since they want to be able to compare you to people later on) and waitlist refers more to availability (cuz why would they tell you that you can only go if others decide not to if there's still space?). i dont recall anyone from the first round being waitlisted; people were deferred. but now we start seeing a group of waitlisted people. being waitlisted maybe a mix of ability as well as availability issues, so of course its hard to tell.

regardless, id say that anyone who applied third round should get in if their application warrants it, which although is counterintuitive to the point i was making, does make perfect sense.

Well only time can tell then. Was SSP your top choice for many of those already accepted?

Would you give up admission to SSP for any other program, if so which ones?

And for those who will not get in, what are your backups?

SSP was my top and only choice, and I actually emailed my intent to attend this morning :) If I got into TASP it would've been a hard choice, but I didn't actually do the application so. Yeah.

How long is the "response period" for SSP to accept/deny your place? Clark is my first choice because it has a slightly different aim, but the decision date is laaate. Ah, all the SSP talk makes it sound so tempting!
