what was your score? craaaaappppp. how did you study? and you got any advice? the free response section will no longer be on the test, but it will still be hard...
what did you think of the listening?
speaking?
reading?
essays?
thanks haha

uh, it was the only test i studied extensively for (i also took calc ab, ush, chinese lol) and it was my only 4 D:

the best way to study probably (if youre already somewhat proficient in spanish) is to think in spanish for a week, which is what i did. and believe me, if you try this for awhile, youll learn a language a lot quicker. and that way, you dont have to rely on translating things into spanish; you can think it directly, which is a big plus. and i used barrons, which has ridiculous prep, which if you work on it a long timell help you a lot. my biggest advice is probably to not freak out after listening (since i dont think any nonnative can do good on this) and to manage your time well on the free responses. as long as youre proficient in spanish, going into it with a positive outlookll do you more than almost anything.

uh
listening - totaly fml. i didnt even have a clue what i was doing. on some of the passages, i think they put in static purposely. and then my friggin school announcements came on during this part. of the 35, if im lucky i got 20 right.

reading - this was surprisingly easy. the cognates make it easy and the quesions typically are really straightforward. time isnt typically a big issue. usually its not that hard to understand. the thing is that the questions are sometimes difficult to understand, and so you want to make sure that youre actually answer the question thats there (since one word really can change the meaning of a question).

writing - this wasnt that bad. the dbq was a bit annoying because i didnt really understand the question (and i still dont). i think i wrote an alright essay. the letter was really easy. it was like "write to someone about why youve enjoyed (something i forgot)" and that was easy. if youre good at writing, and as long as you understand the question (i hated the one i got), then you only have to minimally incorporate the documents for a good score, so thats always nice.

speaking - the interview was so fml too rofl. since you only get a minute with the outline, and then the questions just come at you like bullets, its so insane lol. i tanked on 2 of the questions, and i think i did ok on the others. just develop some mastery over normal phrases which can buy you enough time to think of an actual response.

the presentational speaking was a lot better since i got 2 (or is it 4, i forgot) minutes to prepare for it and the topic wasnt that bad. if youre good at speaking, just make sure your thoughts are organized and youre good to go. what i did, was on my blue packet (the one with the questions in it), i just started actually writing down what i was going to say exactly after i planned out my basic thoughts. and so when i started i had like 3 sentences to begin with, and after that i was able to just hold my own and go with it.

lol, it was my first ap test ever though, so it was really stressful.

^ that is why i'm not taking AP spanish....T_T

and i agree with bks...paying attention in class is #1 cause of passing any test. =D

I didn't take AP spanish at my school because I simply couldn't stand another year of that horrid waste of a clas period. But my sister got a five without even trying, but then again we are Puerto Rican and somewhat fluent.

haha wow..I def. need to start practicing spanish

Anyone think that third round decisions will come this week?

oh I hope they do

Lol y'all are all nuts. I'm taking 4 APs and 2 SAT IIs. :-D

^ Same here.

i have faith in .. this friday :)

wait, so I’m just wondering, how come the college matriculation rates for ssp alumni are so high, yet the acceptance rate is not THAT high (27%ish) compared to other programs like RSI, TASP, or even COSMOS (20%ish)

college matriculation? meaning % of people who matriculate in college? lol?

if you mean at a good college, its probably because we rock so much that the people who apply are self-selective and so even if the acceptance rate is relatively high the people who go are still really pwnage =D.

sweet, makes sense to me. yea i was jw, cause some guy was just like “id say even LEAD is better than SSP, ur better off doing a program at a college instead” i was like ***fff

Any updates or news concerning decisions from anyone so far?

i didn’t get mine yet.
still hoping for friday!!

I’m thinking there’s still another week.
On a side note: the senior class at my school is so freakish this year. Many non-exceptional students got into amazing colleges.

velleity, you are almost certainly right, but hope is a thing with feathers :P

yeah, mine too. all the seniors got into basically every non hypsm school :O

Almost everyone at my school goes to one of the University of Wisconsin system schools - rarely the flagship. Senior val is going to Western Technical College.

I haven’t posted for like a week - I’ve missed this thread :)

most people at my school end up at UT, ATM, Baylor UTSA or community colleges. But there are always a few that go to Rice or something really far out of state
