How did you guys answer question # 2? I have four main activities, but just mentioning one took 230 words . . . shouldn't I mention all 4? But I can't fit it . . .

Don't worry, I got in with a 112.5 on the AMC as one of my crowning math/science achievements :P I didn't even take it my sophomore year.

I don't know exactly how they accept students. Though achievement certainly helps, it's definitely not by achievement alone.

Was that on the 10 or the 12? And a 112.5 by no means is a bad score lol that's a great achievement going into your sophomore year!

Also, for your essays, did many of you use the "show" method than "tell". For question 3, I find it hard to "show" my unique qualities. It's easier to "tell" . . .
does anyone follow?

Databox- It was on the 12, but my point was that the 112.5 was probably one of the high points of the math/science section for me. I wasn't half as accomplished as databox and bks85, so others shouldn't be afraid to apply.

@ Quantum
I think I used a little of both. My unique trait essay is very show, my entire #4 is pretty show, with the other two essays being a mix. It's hard to write show all the time :)

Eh, I think I might ask my GC to write an extra rec for me - she's already writing one for another program, and could just tailor it a bit - maybe...

I definitely used show for number 4 as well, i don't know how else you can answer that question... and almost completely show for the others.
just wondering, what other programs is everyone applying to?

I was applying to TASP but I fail and gave up. So if I don't get in I might find an internship / take a course at Rice / get a job / sign myself up for another random summer camp / some combination of the above.

So one of my teachers INSISTS on mailing the app himself..and wants me to provide him with stamped addressed envelope. Does SSP allow this? for the teacher to separately mail in a recommendation? thanks.

Try to convince him to let you send in the req. The teacher is supposed to put reqs in a signed/sealed-across-the-flap envelope, so there is no risk of you reading it - if that is his worry. Maybe he thinks you won't send it in? (Unlikely...)

If all else fails, say that SSP does not allow it and him doing that could cause you to be rejected for not having the required materials.

EDIT: I'm not sure if SSP allows it, but I think it would confuse them...

Another method would to complete your application and give him the money to send it off. You would probably also want to include a SASE(or postcard) in it to make sure that the SSP folk got it.

Or you can ask to have your teacher to give it to your guidance counselor to send it with your transcript. You could also include your application with that.

^Ok I got my school transcript, so I pretty much have everything, except for that one recommendation. Do you think SSP would allow him to send his rec separately? He's been doing this for many years, and will only write me one if he gets to send the rec himself...also by giving him money, you mean the stamped envelope? Thanks

Btw my other teacher did not sign his recommendation. This alright?
