Is it ok if we don’t talk about astrology/physics in the short answer about what interests us? I think last year it specifically asked like what about astrology interests you but this year they changed it to any science topic in general.

For people who are applying to backups for SSP, what are you thinking of doing?
I was just going to apply to a pre-college program (e.g. Brown, Cornell), because it’s not hard to get in.

Guys do you think, if it will be okay if I exceed the word limit by around 20-30 words on the 500 word essay?
And also my school doesn’t seem to provide official “transcripts” as such. Will it be fine if I send them a list enlisting the courses I’ve taken.

@mabsjenbu123
i actually have the same problem (well, concern). im wondering whether writing about other sciences will lower your chances of getting in…but then again, they say that if you have no interest in astrology and the like, then SSP is not for you =

@CranberryOrange
thats a good idea tho
im applying to the program at Caltech, and a couple of math camps/programs
does anybody know of any good robotics summer programs out there?

@xunxun
going a little over the word limit shouldn’t kill you, i mean, it’s not like they count every single word, or anything.
and i suggest if you just do a listing of the courses you’ve taken (include the grades you got for them too btw) then you should make it official. aka get your guidance or teachers to sign it/stamp it/approve it or however it is. (i would go with a school stamp tho)

Would it be fine to send my best SAT score rather than my most recent one since I did worse on January’s SAT…

@LostHope777 - it’s fine to send your SAT scores from any test date. Just make sure to inform your school that so they can put it on your transcript.

What type of topics are you guys talking about for the first short answer?

hi ! i just wanted to ask will not giving the SAT hurt my chances of applying . i have not given SAT yet . i am in 11 grade

How important are the word limits? I have written about 650 words on a prompt that is limited to 500. At best I feel that I can shorten it to 600 words. Anyway input would be appreciated.

@awesome

I think that should be fine. I curious about other people’s test scores. Do you guys all have 2200+ SATs?

For short answer 4, which has four separate sections, should we separate our answers into a,b,c,d, or should we answer it as one essay? I know the word count is 500 total, I was just wondering if the answer is supposed to be one answer.

I didn’t take SAT reasoning test… I did take ACT, but I bet the score would be miserable, so I am not planning to send it… However, I did have SAT physics 800 and math2 800…
My PSAT score is …179… I know it’s really low, but I don’t have any other SAT to prove myself.
I am going to take SAT in March 13, if I get defered, maybe I can send that score to them when it’s ready…

Wish me good luck, please.

TO CranberryOrange, I think we should separate the answers, but I only answered one…

Although SATs are not the most important thing in any decision, it is definitely important to send in a score. They briefly glance at it and if you’re in the “range” (probably 2150+), then they will simply move on to your essay and recs. The most important thing is your essay and teacher recs - make that your importance. If you have a low SAT score but a steller essay, I’m sure they’ll still let you in. But not sending one is definitely bad.

I just wrote my essay to question 4 on why I love math and science. It doesn’t really fit into any one subtopic, so I didn’t letter it.

Also, I believe they /strongly/ recommend that you are taking/have taken a calculus and physics course. From what I’ve heard, you need to apply some of these concepts during class and stuff.

To question 4 I wrote about what got me interested in math and science when I was really young. I agree that you should definitely send in your score, even if it’s low, because not sending it in will raise a red flag.

Does anyone know what the avg SAT/PSAT was for people last year?

Also, does anyone know the acceptance rate?

Don’t worry too much about SAT/PSAT scores, guys. They don’t have to be amazing (although some people’s were) to get in.
The acceptance rate is pretty high, in the high 20’s - 30’s because of the small pool of applicants (highly self-selective applicant pool). This may change since I know a lot more people applying this year than in previous years.

can we send our toefl score instead of SAT . mine is 114 , toefl ibt…

is 590 on maths 2 sat 2 good enough for ssp 2010 , for one’s first attempt when only 40% of the syllabus is covered in our school.

My most recent SAT score is 2240. But the one I send in is 2210. Can I resend my score?

sadahila:

I don’t think 30 point is a big enough difference anyway… Don’t worry about that.
