@TreeNode: Thanks for the tip! I checked, and all of my required parts have been received. Sweet.

Mine have not yet…the email said it should all be in by Wednesday.

Guys, I have pretty strong academics but almost. Nothing. Science-related. I’ve always been a super humanities person, but I just started learning computer science this year and I love it to death. I’ve taken an honors physics course and am doing Calc C + Multivariable this year, but besides that, no science extracurriculars sob.

Do you think I have even a sliver of a chance…?

To be honest Winslow, no one here can tell you - the acceptance rate is very low. If you have good grades, test scores, and essays you have a chance. I have a decent amount of science EC’s, but decided a resume wasn’t necessary, and so the readers won’t know about any more than the ones I cited in my short answers. If you represented a passion for science and critical thinking abilities through the material you provided, you’ve got a good chance!

There are people who get in who have already done extensive research and those who have done none at all. Just hope the reader sees something in your app that they really like!

We will all find out in a month or so.

Thanks readyfor2014!

Yeah, I read that the quality they found the most important was the determination to learn/passion for learning…so I hope that showed through enough in my essays.

Good luck to you all!

I know this is really lame and you guys can’t predict my chances, but do you think I have a decent shot?

SAT: 2360
SAT II: 800 Math II
AP: Calculus BC (5), European History (5), Chemistry (4)
Current APs: Enviro, US History, Physics B, Physics C, English Lang and Comp, Stats, and self-studying Biology. And right now I’m taking Cultural Anthropology at a local CC
GPA: 4.41/4.00
Rank: 1/520
-President/founder of Red Cross Club, treasurer of CSF Club, member of Science Club (we don’t have officers and we participate in the Science Olympiad)
-I was the only sophomore to ever take AP Calc BC at my school, and I took Multivariable Calc last term and got an A
-I didn’t submit a supplement because pretty much everything was in my essays/recs
-I participate in a weekly math discussion group at UC Davis with grad and PhD students. The topics covered include graph theory, knot theory, and mathematical finance. We also have guest speakers from companies in the field, like Intel and a biotech startup
-1st essay: wrote about my recent love for computational neuroscience and how it bridged the gap between biology and computer science/physics for me
-3rd essay: my 6 year involvement in genealogical research, now have over 6500 people in my family database, wrote story about my ggg grandfather (he sailed to America on a boat when he was six with only his 8 year old sister, because their uncle died halfway through the trip)
-4th essay: wrote about how I come from a family of athletes and how that has basically shaped my life growing up in sports, etc. I was on the Olympic track for gymnastics, then we had to quit b/c of money, now I play volleyball
-5th essay: didn’t really like this one. I wrote about how I grew up loving science, yada yada
-my recommendations were really incredible (I read them)

You have a 27.7822 percent chance of being accepted…

Hate to be harsh, but come on dude…do we think you have a “decent shot”? You have an 800 math score, you should be able to figure it out.

biovball it’s unhealthy to do this kind of stuff haha. You are qualified (test scores and academics wise), but there’s no way for anyone to predict your chances! Don’t fret - you have a solid application… now it’s just waiting time for you guys! :)

Everyone…I really need help,here…

So I sent my application form to SSP Admissions in NC on February 20th. UPS person said that it will arrive on Feburary 24th or 25th and I will get a confirmation email …

But I did not get confirmation email and my mom accidentally threw the receipt away…

What am I supposed to do…??? OMG I am really freaking out… I spend good amount of time for nothing…

It’s probably fine…
First, check your spam folder to make sure the email didn’t go there
Second, I think there is a way to check online at SSP to see if all your materials were received. ( if you want to check to see if they received everything, you can see your online application by clicking on the link in the calendar on the right side of the home page. – Where is says March 1st – those who already applied may still access the online forms)
When in doubt, email the director and ask.

Thank you!

But I already did everything you told me to do…
I checked SSP webpage but it says they did not receive anything.
Then I emailed the Director and he says everything will be up by Wednesday…but it’s still not updated…

I am really frustrated…

If they did not get it by March 1st…then what is going to happen??? …

it’s not wednesday…

Don’t worry about it too much. I’m sure that it is fine even if it shows up a day or so late. I believe they only care about the postmark date anyway. If you sent it mid February then I am sure you are fine. Just relax at this point.

Don’t worry. When I submitted my app it took like 6 days after FedEx said that it was delivered before they updated my status. Also, they are currently processing like 700 applications; They probably just haven’t updated your page. It sounds like you’ve done all that you can do (by emailing the director). Plus even if it is a little late under the FAQ section it says that “the deadline is not absolute. Applications arriving a day or two late will be reviewed” Good Luck to everyone that applied!!

Thank you for the reassuring words! I will wait… and everything will be fine… hopefully!!
Good luck to all of you! I wish you the best :)))

does anyone know when the decisions will be mailed for internationals? last year it was 5 days after rsi
