Summer Science Program (SSP) 2013

Time is going so slowly … I can just imagine what it’s going to be like next year when we’re waiting for college decisions to come out.

Oh trust me… It’s MUCH worse… Haha especially if all your friends get into their EA schools and you’re the only one waiting… :P

I am an international student who is still waiting for the email…Frustrated. When will the result come out?? Is there any international student who still has no idea now?

hpyscm, Could you pm your stats :3 last year? Thanks man and what campus again?

^yeah sure. I was CA campus, mostly because I couldn’t do NM due to the fact that it started before my school year ended hahaha

@Corrinevalence

已经给你发过电邮说明了,请注意查收。
再次说明:遇到问题的同学请发邮件给
admissions@ssp.org、info@summerscience.org或者rbowdon@ssp.org询问,
在这里发帖子没有用……录取官也不在这里。

I strongly recommend that all international applicants who have problems with the admission should email to
admissions@ssp.org, info@summerscience.org or rbowdon@ssp.org
to ask your questions.

@bioliu, I’ve sent an email to admissions@ssp.org, haven’t got anything yet…

bump. 10 char

I am also from China. Not receiving notification yet. Might because I am attending a school in LA. I hope I can get in to meet you guys there. Nervous…

I can’t agree with you anymore. When you know your friends get ED or EA, and you are still waiting.

If I get into SSP and Simons, which one should I go to?

You’re posting on the SSP thread, so naturally we’re going to be biased. That being said, SSP is probably the best thing you can do with your summer, but Simons is more research intensive (you can submit for intel/Siemens, etc) but SSP makes you love learning and discovery. Idk if Simons can give you the same kind of learning experience that SSP does

YAYYY! I just got an email from the administrator! I got in!
I am going to the campus in California. I seriously cannot wait! Is anybody else who has been accepted going to Santa Barbara? Please let me know :)

PS.
Anybody who is stressing about stats(scores), don’t fret about it. If you are passionate about science, that’s a pretty good advantage.
Also, anybody who has not received an email should check their spam. I also had the same problem where I did not receive an email, but turns out all of it was going to spam, haha

Congrats to you!

and to the person choosing between Simons and SSP. Simons is much much better for research. If you must enter Siemens or Intel STS or compete for ISEF, go to Simons 100%. SSP is better specifically for astronomy, and learning. Its a great learning and life experience. I had friends at Simons and they said it was not as social.

If you are worried about what program “looks” better, both are very prestigious. Both will help with college.

@sachiiluv, are you an international applicant?

A slightly different question than the one above…
If I have to commit to a program (not too big and does conflict about a week into the later SSP campus, but free and already accepted) before I will know my status for SSP… what to do? I’ve emailed both and both won’t back down, SSP has told me to request a week extension for the other camp but the commitment deadline is strict… I don’t know if I’ll get in, but I don’t know if I should take that risk. If I were accepted to SSP and had to choose, I’d definitely go SSP, but I won’t be able to make that choice after about April 4th

:(

^Ouch, there’s been numerous of people who have that dilemma. Just have an extra backup plan if you don’t get into SSP but if you decide to decline the camp…and also not get into SSP then use your triple backup plan.

i’m having the same issue… i need to commit but i applied to some other programs including SSP. does anyone know when SSP will release decisions?

@crypticeland: Which other program are you referring to? I have a feeling I know what you are talking about :)

@alpha2014, yup, international applicant from venezuela!

Around mid-april.

@crypticeland : it’s up to you. If there isn’t a huge gap between how much you like that program and SSP, then I would say commit to the other one, unless you’re confident about your SSP app. It all depends on your judgment though :)
