Summer Science Program (SSP) 2014

^@jonthom99
@aops100‌ lol yep, they are rubbing their hands together while their evil cackle of a laugh echoes about in their dungeons.

I really don’t have much experience with astronomy at all… :frowning:

But I really love the wonder of space in general. I think it’s the scale of everything that really gets me - how incomprehensibly big the universe really is in comparison to us humans.

Same @jonthom99‌, I haven’t officially even taken physics in school; I took an online honors physics course, and I’m just really interested in space in general.

@jonthom99 me too! I grew up in some really heavily light polluted cities, but I really want to see the stars. I haven’t had much experience either, but the constellations and galaxies are really fascinating…

I feel like I should really just pretend I didn’t get in and focus on my homework instead, haha. I’ve been on the edge of a panic attack since 1 pm and I’m being super unproductive.

yeah it’s weird… for some reason (even though I’m in 5APs) I SOMEHOW HAVE NO HW!! This NEVER happens… I almost wish I did so I had a reason to work instead of refreshing the page.

It’s spring break for me, so I had the entire day to worry! sob

mine doesn’t start till next week :(

mine ended a long time ago :(

lol 5 tests tomorrow RIP

I’d lend you all my homework, but I doubt you really want to do homework. Also, @Nobody426‌ , I hope you do get to see the stars. I actually had the opportunity to do a program at an observatory in North Carolina for a couple weeks and it was amazing. You could see everything from up in the mountains with no light pollution. Lastly, while we wait, you all can check out this site that lets you do some optical astronomy remotely: <a href=“Control Telescope”>http://mo-www.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/OWN/Own.pl

@Nobody246 Same! I have a practice AP Chem exam due tomorrow that i haven’t started yet haha yay for procrastination

I don’t even know if I should feel nervous or not since my essays seem very poorly written…I wrote nothing specific about love for astronomy. The one science-related topic I wrote about was cancer, which is…totally irrelevant lol. :stuck_out_tongue: Also, I can’t believe you guys have been stressing about this for hours. I just logged on CC and received over 100 notifications. o.o Have been rejected by TASP and SIMR already and will most definitely get rejected by Clark Scholars and this. :’(

“I can’t believe you guys have been stressing about this for hours.” LOL I’ve been stressing about this for the past two months.

@aboveandbeyond‌ Ahhhhhhh thanks for the website! The only contact I had with an observatory was during last summer in Harvard SSP, but the weather was horrible and cloudy on the one night I get to spend on the observatory… Also, I applied for SSP (this one) last year too! I can’t believe I didn’t realize that the other letter was fake (probably because I was too nervous and anxious to read it carefully and notice all the spelling/grammar mistakes). Well, my letter last year was sent the same time as yours, so let’s hope that by this time tomorrow we’ll know the results.

@emywemy610‌ I’m dead for chem. Actually dead. Like, what the heck is electro chemistry? it’s a chemystery. (sorry I’m tired and all I’m useful for is to make stupid puns.) I really hope that I can do well on that AP test…

@fairyfantasy I get you. I’m drowning in all this rejection and it makes me really sad because now I’m doubting myself and getting discouraged even before the college app process… sigh

@ProximaCentauri Just wondering, is that QQ group only for people who were accepted into the program? I am also from China, but I’ve been living in the U.S. for a long time. I have a QQ, too, and am pretty interested in befriending you guys.

@Nobody426 hahahahahahaha I love that. Yeah I just took a free response test on electrochemistry and I got a 4/10 -_- I give up. Apparently in my world an electrolytic cell has a positive Ecell. What the heck brain? Why you do dis?

@Nobody426‌ I actually just started enjoying chem after we are done with the core curriculum now. My AP teacher’s test is so much harder than the actual AP exam. Now that we started doing the actual problems, I start feeling a little relaxed… is that bad?

@ ProximaCentauri @fairyfantasy‌ Ooooh me too! I used to have a QQ (and I can dig it out if necessary), and I’d love to meet some of you guys!

@emywemy610‌ eeeeeek! I don’t really know anything yet since we just started this chapter… I don’t even if we’re going to finish everything in the curriculum before the AP test…

@QQwang2015‌ Don’t worry about it! My Calc teacher’s the same, and I’m actually glad that she can at least secure us a 4 or a 5… However, I just did super awful on the test from Monday, and I really, really don’t want a B in the class so I should probably proceed to work my butt off now…
