This thread does seem much quieter than previous’ years…
@leoursa Fusioneer isn’t lying. I’ve been admitted, too
Congratulations everybody! It says Alternate List. what are the chances and conditions to get in now? Am I supposed to do something ?
Are you international by any chance? @bernoulli521 @toofless ? Oh no Mine is still blank.
And congratulations to everybody who’s been admitted so far!
@leoursa
The website simply says “Admitted” under admission decision. Hope you get in as well! I don’t think your stats are very important. I am confident that my SAT scores and GPA are on the lower side of the spectrum but somehow I managed to get in. Good luck!
@bernoulli521 @toofless
Did you guys receive email confirming the admission decision on website? I’m still waiting for it
@fusioneer98 no, I haven’t received it yet, maybe there will be some info about the alternate list…
Yes, that’s the way they do it. S got admitted last year. On the day I was to pay, he found out he was also admitted to MITES at MIT. He choose MITES. It doesn’t cost anything except your travel to MIT. It was more well-rounded and now he is an EA MIT Class of 2019 student. Either one is extremely hard to get into. They say it is even harder than their regular college admissions.
@leoursa I’m American but currently living abroad, so count as international
@fusioneer98 yep, still waiting for an email…
@bernoulli521 I think you have a pretty decent chance. There are people who choose not to accept every year due to various circumstances-- other programs, dates not working etc.
Finally got the email: I’m heading to Boulder !
What about you, @fusioneer98 ?
@toofless
I got the email as well!
I’m going to NM campus! Wow. I’m surprised that the number of applicants was above 150 for international students. Although I’m a bit sad that I cannot meet you at SSP (because you must be such a great person), I’m looking forward to meeting amazing people at NM! Good luck and have fun there!
CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!
Yeah, Congrats!!
Congratulations everyone (and special congratulations to the NM students because NM reigns supreme)!
@Southpaw45: You wish. Westmont bestmont!
(It’s really sad that we were the last Californians…)
1)If anyone here is going to CU Boulder, please join the Facebook group-- it’s lonely!
- Also, for anyone still waiting for SSP decisions, feel free to PM about my application. I know that one person’s stats won’t mean so much, but it might give you solace considering I am sure that many of you have scores and ecs better than me!
@toofless
I’m waiting for someone else to join first because it would be awkward if I’m the only one. Haha. Such an introvert I am. Someone please join NM Tech group!
@ everyone else
Your stats aren’t as important as you may think (though higher the better). I got in with not-stellar GPA and SAT scores (more than 100 points below SSP average I believe). All of my essays except one went past the word limit. I wrote around 550 words for 500 word essay. Make sure that your interest in science is not only obvious but convincing.
Cliche but tell a story instead of telling the reader “I really love physics. I want to attend SSP because I can study advanced math. I did well in computer class. etc” These are obvious facts anyone can speculate from the fact that you are applying and the grades on your report card. Tell a bit more. Attach a spin to your essay. Be creative. SSP should be convinced that you are going to bring something unique to the community. This is probably the only reason I was accepted. Good luck!
For anybody else who might be wondering why their’s isn’t out yet, the site says “We do not use rolling admissions; we review all applicants together in two rounds, corresponding to the respective application deadlines for international and US students. Admission decisions are announced about mid-March for students outside the US, mid-April for students in the US.” It took me a while to find that because I was panicking…
@toofless and @fusioneer98 , do you think it’d be a good/bad idea to e-mail Mr Bowdon and ask if I could send in my SAT scores I took today? It will come out on April 2nd, which is pretty late, and I’m not sure if it’ll make a huge impact or just annoy them. Wow, this sounds really exciting! Hope I can join the fb group too once…or if… I’m admitted…
@leoursa
I don’t think it would hurt you at all for simply asking whether you can still submit your SAT score. I asked some not-so-intelligent questions while I was waiting for decision. They are friendly people.
Hope to see you at NM campus!
@toofless
Going to Colorado too~ So excited to be admitted! Where are you studying now?
Also, does any one know how many international student they are taking at each campus?
