just posting my rejected biochem stats (rejected at all the programs i applied to) as a junior so ppl can know it’s NOT all about scores/stats that’ll get you in . . . and some self reflection ab rejection that i need to get off my chest haha
1580 SAT (22 essay), 1510 PSAT, 800 Math II/BioM
UW GPA 4.0/ W 4.83 (rank 1/615 in semi-competitive public hs)

EC’s: mainly science fair, research experience, scioly
Essays: When i submitted them i thought they were impressive, but reading them over now i just feel like i wrote in such an overly formal and academic/RIGID way. i just think i didn’t truly let my personality through.
LORs: one of them really strong, not sure about the other. both science teachers i have this year, so they may not know me as well.
I’m happy to see that people got in: I’m sure you worked super hard to get there! and for the rest of us: time to find other ways and get creative this summer (at least for me, i guess haha)
accepted to Biochem! I think I got in due to my essays.
Junior: Asian Male

EC’s: debate, community service team, science bowl, a stem club centered around underrepresented minority groups, research experience
Essays: For the most part, I was vulnerable and personal to my life experiences (won’t PM essays sorry).
LORs: I think they were good?
I was waitlisted, do y’all have any estimates on the number of people who were waitlisted? They accepted 144 people out of 1,402 applicants. So at most they would have 144 people on waitlist right?
Does anyone know how they pick people of waitlist? Is there a ranking in the waitlist or do they reevaluate?
Hmm thoughts on ssp VS sip VS local research internship (may get published) VS mentored indiv research project VS bank of america student leaders? I would’ve gone to hshsp but it got canceled and now i’m conflicted!
I think this year they put more than the regular amount of people on the waitlist, probably due to the fact that SSP is online this year and their yield rate won’t be the same as usual.
SSP is good @2021studenttt but getting published and working in a lab could be better than lectures online and give you more to write about. Not sure how colleges will view online programs.
@Konohakatu
I remember reading somewhere in the FAQ section of the SSP website and it said that the stuff they do usually isn’t for publishing unless significant modifications are made.
