Summer Science Program SSP Introduction Thread

I'm sorry, I was just DYING to introduce myself ^^ and see who is seriously attending the program without any fluff of extraneous information, so I made this thread. Hey, if TASP and RSI can have an acceptance thread, so can SSP...right? Heh;

So.

I'm Ahra~ and I'll be attending the Socorro campus with this other kid at my school this summer. I'm international <korean> but since I live in New Mexico, i think that helped my application tremendously because uhm, I got in with a day (A DAY'S) worth of "work" on the application. And I don't think I'm an exceptional student. :/ Ojai was my first choice (Caltech & the Princeton Faculty...gahh) but I guess since I live in New Mexico, its only practical that I go to the Socoro one, eh? ^.^</korean>

I can't even spell "Socorro" - its only a two and a half hour drive away from where I live...Ughh. Its too close for my liking but what I do I know?

I started my application a week before deadline (lol) because only then did I find about my TASP rejection cringes

Oh man what the frick. Okay...how do I merge my thead with yours...

But yeah. That's me :) A young 16 year old sophomore (soon to be senior - graduating early), not too-talented atlete (although in Varsity Swimming..just because I don't drown), not too-talented artist, not too-talented musician (even though I play the clarinet like a virtuoso! lol jk. I suck) or too-talented mathematician.

I'm really looking forward to SSP....I couldn't really loook forward to it earlier because then, I'd have to face the reality of graduation for my friends and AP Exams but now that AP Exams are over, I can FINALLY look forward to this. Yay! I hope my roommate will be someone cooler and smarter than me! >_< SSP is supposed to be pretty good (ranking up therr with RSI and TASP) and so, I'm really looking forward to meet all the bright kids of America! Ahhh. I hope she likes rap and hiphop and a bubbly personality like mine..hehe. I hope on the first day, we get to do some cool games with introductions....Ahh! That would be fun. And cute guys. LOTS N LOTS of cute guys..muahaha.

JM Pham - The situation we're in, its rather funny...no? ^.^ I'll see you there! I know (already, uhm, kinda) 4 SSPers out of the 30! (pianist, you, this guy, and myself haha) thats almost 1/6! craaaazy.

But please, tell us (?) more about yourself.

Oooki.....lemme try to advertise myself a bit, too :)

My name is Daniel (actually, it's Daniil, but w/e). I live in New York, but i was born in Moldova (5 bucks to a person who finds this country on the map first :p )...I've been here for only like 2 years, so me NO speaking english good :)
As for roommate-i'm not worrying about him/her-whoever he/she is, he/she will be DEFINITELY cooler and smarter then i am :)

anyways.....yeah, i am a little bit on the var. volleyball team....i play fairly bad chess, even worse checkers :)

what else...ow, i will probably be the oldest person on campus, since i'll turn 18 (right in the middle of the program :p...2/3 actually)

As for personal qualities....well....neah...im not going to tell how terrible i am...You'll have to find out on your own evil grin

First of all, congrats to you on acceptance
Second of all--YEEY!!!! I'm bringing my flute there, too :)
Only, since im a poor immigrant, i dont have any notes here :(

eeermm......i guess this is it...do we have to post our pictures? (i'd rather not , for i get really scared when i look at myself in the mirror or in the picture :) )

Moldova...borders Ukraine and Romania near the black sea. Eastern Europe.

Yeah...about that 5 bucks...

Nice to meet you, Hriundeli! :)

Hey, i just noticed that I said I started a week earlier and then, a day earlier in my first post. Huh. I got the rec letters a week earlier, and then on sunday or smoething, i wrote my essays. :P heh;

AhhhhhhH! about 1 more month!

AWESOME

DUDE, THIS WILL BE AN AWESOME MUSICAL SUMMER

SSP >>> RSI

SOCORRO >>> OJAI

SOCORRO 06 >>> you or me

That's so cool, Daniel/Daniil! I have a couple of neat flute duets that I'll have to remember to bring!

And by the way, what date is your birthday? I have a birthday midway along this summer too (June 29!) I'll be turning 17

I don't play any sports really, cept for dancing, though I used to play soccer, and I run a few miles every now and then too. I used to be good at chess when I was little (my grandpa gave me a board and a set of pieces on my 4th birthday and taught me to play) it was mainly because I knew the rules and no one else did grins

Lol. Chess-wise, I was a finalist for the state chess thingie (many, many finalists) for the state of Michigan in 6th grade but lost to this crazy asian guy. He humiliated me in like, 20 minutes. Lol.

Shadowdancer, that's cool :) I play the clarinet, but I'm not going to bring it because everyone would laugh at me and that'd be no fun. :( but I love musicians! You'll have to play for me sometime...haha ^^

will do in talent show

Shadowdancer, my b-day is going to be Jul 11th this year (and next, and the year after next, and after that, AND after...etc) BTW, if any of you know any person whose b-day is also on 7-11 (go 7-11 stores :) !), please tell me-for 17 years i was trying to find someone who has it on this date, but so far there are no results :( It gives me a horrible feeling that i was the only one born on that date that year in the whole world.....brrr.. :)

Kisstheskyxx, don't worry-you can bring your clarinet-noone will be laughing at you-they will be busy laughing at me :)
Same thing for chess: forget about this guy-you'll have plenty of time to boost your self-esteem, practicing on me for your next competition :)

cheers (as Mr. Bowdon says) ;)

cheers is nice but trite already

Hopefully this won't be that banal :p

Hi all!

My name is Henry, I'm 17 (junior), but next year I'm going to college (University of Southern California) because I'm skipping my senior year basically. I haven't done anything really special, like win state titles or whatnot. I like running....but I haven't been on the cross country/track team in a year (and that's about the length of time since I've ran, go figure)... I just recently picked up the classical guitar, I love it, I'm learning French (though I'm enrolled in Spanish). I'm pretty bad at chess, I get owned by my friend all the time. I used to like programming, and I used to be pretty good at it too, but I haven't done anything since last summer.

I'm going to the Ojai campus (GO OJAI!) because I live in California and it's simply more convenient for me to go there ;). While you Socorro people are stuck in the middle of some random desert....us Ojai-ers shall enjoy the beaches, CalTech and JPL :-D.

This will be the first time I've ever done a summer program like this, so I'm really excited. I'm looking forward to my roommate :-D, hope he is gonna be smarter than me :-D. I really need to be humbled, haha.

Oh, and I'm an RSI-reject.

^ I'm a TASP reject. Good to meet you, Henry! (good to meet you? Hmm)

Wow. USC! That's the guy I like's dream school! Amazing, you must completely overwhelmingly smart :) haha. Cool. I wish you would join us in Socorro, but awwww :( thats a shame that you're going to Ojai. It was my first choice, however....haha.

I hope you guys have a lot of fun at SSP!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Are you going to TASP, dictator :D I hope you have fun there if you are, I'll make sure to live vicariously thorugh your experience. !

I don't actually know anyone with a 7-11 birthday, but if theres a 7-11 store within walking distance of the NMT campus (and I don't know how strict they'll be about this sort of thing) all the 7-11 stores give away free 7 ounce slurpees (slushy ice drinks).

French is fantastique! Enjoy your studies, Cypher.

So... now that we have some synonyms...

Down the Hatch everyone!

^ I leave kinda-sorta near Socorro, and frankly, I haven't seen any 7-11s in New Mexico. Weird, but true lol. But i can be wrong.

A strange thought crossed my mind: will we get the opportunity to get our hair cut? :-P
